Grow your own veg

Since I joined roots, I have been able to grow my own food, meet a nice community, learned how to grow vegetables, and I have been enjoying the community workshops.

The idea of allotments is great one

The idea of allotments is great one. Everyone should have access to a place for growing their own produce. That's the philosophy that Roots have exploited for their own financial gain while at the same time riding roughshod over any concerns for the natural environment. Please be warned; if you rent a plot from them the only thing you are likely to grow are their profits. There is a chance that by their actions they may encourage local authorities to increase charges for traditional council allotments so you will also be affecting existing growers.Don't be fooled, this is not for your benefit or the good of the planet or the natural world, It's all about lining their pockets.

I would give them zero stars if I…

I would give them zero stars if I could. For the destruction of a valuable wildlife environment in Abbots Leigh - no starsFor not abiding by planning permission laws - no starsFor putting profit over the environment - no starsFor lack of civility and not working with the local community - no starsFor endangering local species eg skylarks, deer, insects and other species reliant on wild meadow - no starsThis is the wrong place for this kind of development and because of their approach I would not support their work in any environment anywhere.

Just started our patch with Roots in Stourbridge. Dave Coxy (site manager) delivered the welcome, which was excellent, informative and offered plenty of support. Everyone we have met on site have been really approachable and kind, looking forward to spending lots of time growing our produce here as well as integrating into the community.

They have trashed a pristine meadow in…

They have trashed a pristine meadow in Abbots Leigh ,a rare habitat for a variety of wildlife, dumped a load of plastic ridden compost on it and fenced out the wildlife who used to wander freely. They forced out a local farmer by offering far more money to lease than he had paid for many years, two deer have been killed due to their inadequate fencing, they try and jump it and get caught, a hedgehog couldn’t get out of the enclosure to find shelter and died, protected skylark nests probably destroyed and the police told them to stop work to protect the ones left. These people don’t care about wildlife or they’d do something to mitigate the impact they are having, seems to me they just care about making money but will sell you a story about everyone has a right to grow etc . They are associated with fox hunting and support the badger cull. If you rent an allotment from them and line their pockets it’s on your conscience. Take a look at Roots Uncovered on Facebook to find out more.
