I would give -0 stars if I could, whilst out walking my dog along Monarchs way footpath very early in the morning [best time to view wildlife in all its glory] I was surprised to see a l convoy of Roots tractors, one of which drove right over an endangered Skylark nest, it must have crushed it, I then saw the parent frantically trying to find it, I’m devastated.
Arrogant greenwashing. Manipulating the truth.Animals have died due to Roots Allotments using incorrect fencing, which they had been advised was dangerous. They will not apply for planning permission. Police ecologists have had to get involved, to stop them.Deborah Meaden and Chris Packham amongst other naturalists all agree Abbots Leigh wild life meadow is wrong place for the 700 allotments.Alongside a major road into Bristol, with no planning agreed for any parking, sheds, containers, etc. They remove and block any negative feedback from their Facebook and Instagram sites.
Just started our patch with Roots in Stourbridge. Dave Coxy (site manager) delivered the welcome, which was excellent, informative and offered plenty of support. Everyone we have met on site have been really approachable and kind, looking forward to spending lots of time growing our produce here as well as integrating into the community.
They have trashed a pristine meadow in Abbots Leigh ,a rare habitat for a variety of wildlife, dumped a load of plastic ridden compost on it and fenced out the wildlife who used to wander freely. They forced out a local farmer by offering far more money to lease than he had paid for many years, two deer have been killed due to their inadequate fencing, they try and jump it and get caught, a hedgehog couldn’t get out of the enclosure to find shelter and died, protected skylark nests probably destroyed and the police told them to stop work to protect the ones left. These people don’t care about wildlife or they’d do something to mitigate the impact they are having, seems to me they just care about making money but will sell you a story about everyone has a right to grow etc . They are associated with fox hunting and support the badger cull. If you rent an allotment from them and line their pockets it’s on your conscience. Take a look at Roots Uncovered on Facebook to find out more.

Isn’t it odd how there’s a glut of positive reviews around the same date? Could it possibly have been orchestrated? Roots have form for it. After all if you dare question - or even be on the Roots Allotments Uncovered Facebook page ( a page which is open to all and questions their validity) you’re struck off any of their social media channels. A firm that develops land in a SSI buffer zone, kills deer, skylarks, hedgehogs, buries existing meadowland flora and fauna beneath tonnes of plastic-laden municipal waste and charges you 10x the amount for a patch less than half the size of a standard allotment while ignoring planning authority demands and gets ordered by the police to stop work because they’re too busy to care about wildlife so desperate are they to bring in the cash for their venture capitalist backers, are not ‘Good Vibes Only’, they’re despicable greenwashers. Still, given their stag/fox hunting, badger cull supporting background that’s unsurprising. There’s a reason the Green Party, Forestry England, Chris Packham, the RSPB, local environmentalists plus well over 3000 signatories from across the country have called this greenwashing sham of a business and their development of a wildflower meadow in North Somerset out - but if you’re happy paying through the nose, for a tiny plot and can stomach the stench of decaying deer, skylarks and hedgehogs while you plant into plastic waste and all to line their back-pockets, then this might be the company for you.Or you have a greater moral compass.
What an awful greenwashing company. say they care about countryside, creating bio diversity, improving areas. But at the expense of current wildlife and fauna. Also with total lack of planning applications and following legal guidelines at various sites. Baced by venture capital so obviously about the money
Bristol Abbots Leigh is totally the wrong place for this development and planning permission should be sought so this company can be properly scrutinised. They have barrelled in to a species rich meadow ignoring their planning restrictions. So far ground nesting skylarks (red listed) have been disrupted during nesting season and one deer has had to be put down die to their inadequate fencing all because their very pricey allotments need to be bringing money in yesterday. Cash before caring.
