SG Accounting was recommended to me by one of my colleagues as I was nervous about using an online Accounting Company, as well as being a complete novice using Accounting software. From the initial Zoom welcome call with my Client Director Laura Hepworth, who explained the direction my company would take, everyone has been friendly and very helpful. Thanks to Thomas Armstrong, Accounts Consultant, for taking me through the accounting software and for taking my calls when I find myself floundering with FreeAgent, cannot promise the calls will not stop but I am getting better. I recently transferred my accountants over to SG Accounting, having been dissatisfied with my previous service. I was expecting it to be quite a hassle, but thankfully the transition has proved easy.The team at SG are all very competent, respond to my queries in a timely fashion, provide good advice and take care of the various necessities involved in running my small business.As a recently established solo contractor, it is comforting to know everything's in order and that I have support available when I need it.
SG Accounting provides access to FreeAgent as part of their services and the onboarding session their Accounts Consultant (Thomas A) provided was absolutely top tier.He walked me through each of the key areas step-by-step and pointed out useful information as we went. Even when I deviated the topic to some general accountancy queries linked to the FreeAgent tab we were discussing at the time, he answered my query with full knowledge & background information. He also followed up very quickly in an email a side query I had regarding VAT calculations and provided the numbers behind it.At the end of our call, not only do I feel fully comfortable with using FreeAgent, but I understood & learnt a lot more about managing my business accounts thanks to Tom.

I recently signed up with SG Accounting to manage the accounts for my small limited company, and am very happy with the service I've received so far. My designated account manager, Laura, has been great - very responsive to my queries via email, and thorough in our introductory call. The compliance team have also been proactive and efficient with various filing obligations, which really helps take the weight off when you're juggling multiple other things as a small business owner. I spoke with a quite a few different firms (national, local and online) before I decided to go with SG, and felt they offered the best value for money, and a more personalised service.
Bigoted and lately incompetent service.While our journey started great a few years ago, it quickly turned for the worse. When I transitioned and wanted them to update my details, my emails went unanswered for a month. Then, when they finally answered, I was fed a bunch of complete nonsense by their 'compliance' team and was also told that I should report myself to the police, as otherwise, they cannot establish my identity.It's not just wrong but outright insulting to tell a trans person to report themselves to the police over the simple act of a name change via Deed Poll, as is the legal way in the UK.This was followed by more legal nonsense and made-up requirements, which can only feel like a continued bigoted attack on a trans person in 2024. Until that point, they were happy to take my money.Unthinkable. Avoid like the plague.
Dean Lacey provides an excellent service. As somebody who is new to running a Limited Company, he is instrumental to helping me put arrangements into place on time in a fast paced workplace. I usually have about 50 questions, and his knowledge and expertise mean he is able to answer pretty much everything straight off the bat. Highly recommended.
