I was unfortunate to have an accident. Following an operation to repair the damage, I applied for insurance cover. I was expecting it to be extremely long winded with lots of questions that seem to be unrelated however, to my surprise the process was extremely easy. Laura Houghton with whom I’ve been dealing with was so helpful, not only with the completion of the forms but also indicating areas that I could also claim small amounts of reimbursement.
The only issue I had was on my end, doctors cancelling appointments and taking their time getting my medical certificates completed. Once this process was completed, the reimbursement was paid directly into my bank account, it sitting in my account waiting to be cleared. This process took less than 24 hours to complete.
Talk with Laura was like talking with an old friend. I am very impressed with the professionalism, curtesy and friendliness.
I have landlord insurance with SB. My tenants did not pay the rent. I did contact SB, as it clearly says rental income covered £100k, and legal costs are also covered. They passed the buck to ARAG, who is a third party, now its more than a week, and ARAG is just assessing what is covered. My insurance had gone up by 22%. Brian from Simply Business looked through the system for me and found me the same cover for 11% less than last year's premium. Brian was really friendly and helpful and gave good advice throughout.
I dont think SB are really that good. If you have any claims, they will not be able to find a solution for you. They are very retail based and quite franly rubbish in many ways. I used them until I had to evict tenants and they couldnt find me a policy. Another property suffered a flood. They could not helpI find DIRECTLINE much much better to use and in their service.
We switched our business insurance from Markel and have regretted the decision ever since. On filing our first ever claim, the legal expenses cover isn't what we were told and the appointing of your own solicitor/accountant is not covered to deal with a matter, They would rather I spend precious work time now bringing up an external professional that they appoint on 20 years of a business. Not ideal when you are running a business.Furthermore it takes weeks to get a claim approved with many days where your point of contact does not come into work. Very unprofessional service.
