My struggle with hair loss began around the age of 21. Being affected so early on, along with the snide comments from friends, severely damaged my self-confidence and, by extension, all aspects of my daily life. I envied those who could simply disregard this genetic misfortune and move on with an unencumbered smile and their heads held high.I, on the other hand, couldn't even bring myself to turn on the bathroom light, let alone engage in flirtatious conversations or do a simple thing like go to the gym without my cap on. Money was always scarce, but I was determined to find a solution, seeing it as an investment in my self-confidence and my life. I sought happiness from within, and that became my starting point for regaining it.The despair I felt led me to use hair concealer fibers for about six years while I saved for a hair transplant. That day eventually came, and I was excited to have the procedure done at a clinic in Turkey for €2,500. Approximately 4,000 grafts were extracted from my donor area and implanted in the recipient areas.A year later, I realized it was the biggest mistake I could have made. Almost none of the grafts took root, my donor area was damaged and scarred, and all the money was gone. I had to continue using hair concealer fibers for another eight years. Still, I wanted a permanent solution that didn't involve another hair transplant.My research led me to scalp micropigmentation (SMP). I clicked on the very first search result and spent the next two full days reading its content. As you might have guessed, it was the Skalp website. The information I found there—including before-and-after photos, testimonials, videos, and Trustpilot reviews—helped me make up my mind. I felt no need to look elsewhere.I was so confident in the quality of the treatment that I paid for each session in advance. I went to SKALP back in 2015 (9yrs ago) to get my SMP done as a cousin of mine recommended them. I was balding at the top and it did not bother me as I thought I will just always shave it off which I did. After researching the results I saw that it does look really good and frames the face. I went for it with full faith and absolutely loved it. Back in 2015 I had x3 sessions. I went back 3 days ago to get a top up. It is recommended to get a top up every 3-6 years depending on your life style (eg if you have been under the sun alot). Mine held up well as I put factor 50 sun cream and wore a cap when going on holiday abroad. As I am getting married next month I thought let me get a top up. I wanted the shade slightly darker. Went there and the session lasted 2hrs. Really happy with the result and its given me that sharpness going into the wedding. Even before I went my mrs to be said I didn't need it done thats how good the results held up from 2015. Skalp are the best ones out there as from all the reviews I have seen as they take pride in who they let into their business to perform the task and ensure natural looks are done. There are some places where it looks like the head has been painted with no natural finish. Do your research with any company you go for but SKALP are the leaders of this and perform this with positive life changing results for those who feel self conscience and with low self esteem. What does it feel like to know you'll never have that dreaded horseshoe hairline? Well, it feels very special I can tell you. I finished my final, 3rd session 3 days ago with Geraldine @Skalp in Dublin and I'm absolutely thrilled with the result. At 51, I just had a quite thin tuft of hair at the front and it was all gone on top. Due to my age, I went for a bit of a receded-type look but with all the missing top part & tuft area filled in and blended with the hair on the back and sides. It looks brilliant and is fantastic for my sport. As many videos say: weirdly, no one in work etc has noticed. They just think I shaved my head. Geraldine was a real professional right from the start. She has a real passion for what she does and has such energy and enthusiasm. You'd never think that she's done it hundreds of times and her genuine joy for you at her finished work is wonderful. Her advice and guidance all the way was second to none too.As regards the procedure, it is a bit painful but I'm sure pain levels differ and there are options such as a numbing gel. I didn't go for that though. Any bit of discomfort is worth it for the long-term gain and it doesn't go on too long and there are breaks. Don't be concerned about how dark it seems after a few days when the redness settles. It's normal and the colour goes down and blends in after a few more days.You will love it. I haven't looked in the mirror this much since I was a teenager! Don't delay. Seriously, if you're thinking of it, just go for it and don't waste a year deliberating like me.
