I am writing this review in response to Skyscanner's request. I hope Skyscanner takes this feedback into consideration to improve its algorithms and avoid such issues in the future. On 29th November 2024, I searched for tickets from Dubai to Kochi on Skyscanner. Most of the options displayed included a hidden convenience fee that only appeared at the final booking stage. If this fee were consistent across all platforms, it would still allow for meaningful comparisons. However, unfortunately, the fee varied between different booking sites, making it challenging to choose effectively. I ultimately selected Opodo.com based on the price and timings that suited me. I completed the booking, made the payment, and the amount was deducted from my card. I received an email from Opodo confirming that they had received my payment and that my ticket was under processing but not yet confirmed. Assuming this was a standard process, I expected the ticket to be issued shortly. The next day, I received a call from Opodo stating that the tickets were no longer available at the rate I booked. The closest alternative they offered was with a 12-hour layover, arriving a day later than my planned schedule. Frustrated, I asked for more options—even with a 10% increase in fare—but the alternatives provided still included long stopovers and did not match my desired timings. I had no choice but to cancel the booking and am now waiting for a refund. Immediately after the call, I searched for flights again. Since my travel was planned during the holiday season, prices had increased significantly, and flights with convenient timings were no longer available. This experience has been frustrating, and I strongly urge Skyscanner to address the issue of hidden convenience fees and improve their partner site reliability to ensure users can trust the platform for seamless travel planning.
