The product itself is decent, but my experience with customer service was quite frustrating. My order was processed but not shipped, and I only discovered this error the day before Christmas. They promised to send it via express shipping for delivery on the 26th or 27th, but that didn’t happen. It arrived the following week after I had already returned home, so I missed the chance to see anyone open their gift, and there was confusion about who received what. Furthermore, customer service mentioned they would provide a code for a free online game as compensation, but instead, I received the same game that was already free with the purchase. I felt it was fair to raise this issue, but at this point, they stopped responding.
I love all of the Fairy Tale Files games! It's fun to see what mischief or evil the infamous characters in fairyland are engaged in and then try to solve the "who done It." One of my favorites is Sweet Witch Inferno. All of the puzzles in Sweet Witch are immersive and engaging. The difficulty level for me was perfect - not too easy but not too hard to leave me frustrated. The Fairy Tales Chronicle newspaper is delightful with all kinds of stories and nuggets of information to help in solving the mystery. The beautifully designed suspect and crime scene cards are helpful in eliminating suspects. Kudos to the team at SOC! You are brilliant and I can't wait to play more of your games.
The game is going to be a Christmas gift, so it hasn't been played yet. It may very well be a great game, but just opening the box was extremely underwhelming. There were packets and things to read, but I get that most of it's online. However, the game didn't come in a box. All of the packets were just in the shipping box, which got kind of beat up in the mail. So now to give the gift, I have to find a box for it. And for some reason, a page of a mommy magazine fell out from among the other papers. The game I got was the treasure hunt one, and the page from the magazine was how to make pirate flags. Ok, good, relevant info, but could you have dressed it up a bit? (I can literally see where the page was torn from the magazine. The little paper bits weren't even trimmed off.) So now if I want my recipient to have this information, I have to trim down the page and glue it on card stock, etc. The total of my order was $53. For that price, this should have all been done for me. I gave three stars because I'm going to assume the game is good anyway. Over all, very unimpressed.Edit: I just went back and reviewed everything that comes with the game. The list does mention ripped magazine pages. It still seems weird though - why a modern magazine for a treasure that's supposed to be ancient?Edit #2: I spoke with a member of the company and she sent me the missing piece of the game. She was also very attentive to my needs as a customer and emailed me back quickly. Much appreciated!!
EU customers beware, the company is not dealing with the importing costs to the EU properly which results in extra handling fees if you would order their products.Update: got in contact with them to solve this, although the extra handling costs to EU aren't resolved, they didn't make any problem to refund the remaining chapters. Therefore I update the score from 2 to 4 stars.
+ The satisfaction of opening your package, exhilarating!+ Society's gorgeous package is screwing with my perception of reality!+ Custom made websites to facilitate your research are a signature for this company, and they've gone even bigger and better. Wow.+ What really gained my respect for the content designers was that they really do their due diligence and research.+ A sheer joy to experience while staying in, and easily ranks as one of the best at-home games I've played.
A huge fan of this adventure and can't wait for the next chapter! My only complaint is that I have to wait 3 months for the next adventure! That said, I appreciate the reasoning for that. Unlike many mass market games that are pumping out new ones left and right, this kind of integrity with story, seamless technology, and engaging and fun puzzles takes time and effort. Thank you to the creators and you have a fan in me :).
I purchased The Search For Edus Madok’s Treasure to have something fun to do while staying at home and to support a great local business. What I received was hours of fun. The storyline was interesting. The mystery was challenging and I loved the variety of puzzles it included. I’m glad I bought a subscription. Future “adventures” will help pass the time between new escape room themes, once Kauai Escape Room opens.
Tonight I (well, wifey and I) completed the first adventure from the Society of Curiosities, Captain Madok's Treasure! This is a solid "A" project! For a freshmen adventure, I really enjoyed it! There is a fun mystery to solve, some great use of technology that actually adds to the game (as opposed to some that pull you out of the game), great physical props (this all fit in an envelope, so no trinkets, just good paper-stuff), and some really cool puzzles to solve. This is primarily a puzzle-type game with some deduction and seems to have a mix of puzzles that are mid-level challenging (plus/minus a few degrees), but the hint system is fantastic for when you get stuck or challenged, so you will always be able to continue at your own pace! I highly recommend this product and if you have not already purchased...run out today! It was just....fun!
It took us about 4 hours to play through the first mission with 4 people, and everyone had contributed to a breakthrough by the time we were done. We really really liked the elements being spread out between physical objects, text messages, and websites. My one note is that it helps a lot to have a printer to make copies of digital content, in case everyone doesn't have their own phone, or in case no one has anything bigger than a phone available to view content. It would be nice to have more of that content provided in the physical package, locked behind 'envelope 1, 2, 3, etc's until the player 'finds' them in the game.I'm real happy with how this turned out, and I'd love to see what the next installment looks like!
