The venue was a bit of a let down for us due to four things:

1. Our seating on Row A was tipping forward ever so slightly which became more and more noticeably uncomfortable during the few hours we were there.

2. The smoking/vaping area had very little shelter from the rain, was small and pokey with limited seating.

3. The food and drink was nothing short of daylight robbery. I understand these places overcharge because they need the extra revenue but these prices were crazy! Almost £5 for a medium cup of pepsi is ridiculous!

4. There were a couple of over zealous security staff on the lower level 7 entrance that seemed to have a personal vendetta against my partner for no reason except they seemed to have mistook him for someone else. They kept trying to refuse him entry back into the arena from the toilets without a ticket even though he explained that I was the one with the tickets and I was still seated in the arena. They told him he should have split the tickets. I still don't understand why that is necessary, given that we'd gone through ticket checks and security to enter the building.

If you can fix those four things I would definitely come back but otherwise I would avoid in favour of other venues.

Customer service that genuinely shocked us

e visited the arena in Birmingham yesterday for Strictly Come Dancing, and I felt I had to leave a review because the customer service was honestly outstanding. In most large venues, especially where there are lots of staff, you don’t expect much people are usually rushed, uninterested, and the service can feel a bit cold. This place was the total opposite. From the car parking marshals, to security, to the ushers and staff inside, every single person we interacted with was friendly, helpful, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Me and my wife were actually shocked we kept saying to each other how rare it is to experience service like that these days.Whatever this venue is doing in terms of training and culture, it’s working and it honestly should be replicated across the country. Brilliant experience from start to finish.

Wolf Alice 29th Nov - great band terrible audio

Wolf Alice 29th Nov, yesterday. Terrible sound in upper level. Was up to 116dB at various points. Had to get ear plugs (seriously) after 45 mins of pain. Suspect mix was fine as listened back on phone and it’s clear. Wonder if it was bad reflections off metalwork in roof and just affected the upper areas? Been there before, different area (Pet Shop Boys, summer 24) and it was loud but perfectly clear.

Complaint service and box office let down.

We arrived to see Peter Kay and were told that our seats had been taken by someone with completely different details. I need a letter to give to viagogo, who I bought the tickets from, relating this and the fact that we were denied access. I have been promised this a couple of times but still nothing. So the box office and the complaint service needs a look at. Very upsetting.Event:  Peter Kay Ticket(s):      Section BL A, Row K, Seat(s) 3 - 4, (2 Ticket(s)) Listing Note(s): Venue:  Utilita Arena Newcastle (formerly Metro Radio Arena) Date:   Friday, August 22, 2025 | 20:00

Nice venue, great staff onsite, shame about the wrong info on booking!

We were at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert on 16 July. They were amazing as always and we had a great time. However, I didn't give 5 stars because prior to attending, we were given completely wrong information about getting to the arena. My husband has COPD and mobility issues and we were told that the quickest way to our seats in Block 2 was to use the Southern Car park and enter the arena at Entrance D. What we didn't realise was that once parked, we had to walk a long way to the entrance and when we got in, the nearest block was 10 which meant we would have to walk all the way round. By this time my husband was struggling to breathe and couldn't walk any further. Then finally our luck turned, 2 ladies from the medical team - Maddi and Gabby - happened to be passing and I can't praise them highly enough, they managed to a get a wheelchair and wheel hubby to the right place. This was not the end of the story - our tickets were for Block 2 but when we got there the curtains were closed, which obviously meant all the seats were taken! We were taken in to block 3 where the security staff were fantastic and so helpful, they seated us in an accessible area which gave us a great view of the stage. I must repeat, Maddi and Gabby as well as the security staff were absolute life savers and made our night a memorable one after all the trouble beforehand. Maddi and Gabby also made sure my husband had a wheelchair so that I could push him back to the car at end of the evening. I do however think it is very bad that such a large and prestigious venue should give out incorrect information especially to someone with mobility issues. Must do better!
