Review Time
I had a great experience thanks to Emily, the bartender. She was very nice, friendly, and extremely helpful. She took the time to explain all the food options on the menu and told us about the specials they were serving. Her warm attitude and great service really made my visit very enjoyable.
This hotel is run down and in need of a total revamp. The entrance staircase is dark and unwelcoming. The room we stayed in had dirt and marks on the carpet, I didn’t want to put things in the floor, not knowing what these marks were from. The bathroom was terrible, the bath had a large chip in the enamel and the tiles had filled holes where there seemed to have been a handrail removed and they had just filled holes in the tiles. The sink taps turned all the way round, not secured properly. The hot water is so hot that I burnt my foot when in the shower. The shower tap turns off from the shower and if you keep turning the tap will turn the bath tap on full. So when turning the bath tap on by mistake, the boiling hot water poured straight down my legs. I would advise not letting children shower without complete supervision. We were catfished with the spa photos!!! This has to be the worst spa and pool area I have ever seen. The pictures show a nice blue pool with loungers around. What you get instead is a very cloudy dirty looking pool with so much chlorine in it will give you very dry and itchy skin and burn your eyes. The pool depth is enough to paddle in, but not swim. The hot tub was so hot it would cook you like a lobster. So small too that it was unfortunate to even be there. There was a small sauna which was the only ‘ok’ spa related thing there. There are no showers in the men’s changing rooms. The men have to shower next to the swimming pool. There are no lockable lockers in the changing rooms, only 9 lockers with latch hooks which do not lock. You are lucky to still have your clothes when you get out of the pool. The entire pool/spa area is not welcoming, run down and not worth even visiting. The dining area was run down with badly placed ornaments and fake plants randomly dotted around. There was an area where there was once a tv screen, but instead was just a hole in the wall with cables handing out.
Horrendous noisey hotel, allocated a room by a noisy corridor access door. Traffic loud and continuous. Room too hot but could not open window due to traffic noise. Food expensive and mediocre. Staff really could not care a less. Shabby hotel with threadbare carpets and poor maintenance.
I arranged my sister surprised 40th birthday party at the Queens hotel and from the start the communication was spot on with Davina. All my emails were answered promptly. We got to view the room and were given a choice of different menus to choose from. All the staff were so professional from the off set. On the day Amanda greeted my sister in the foyer and really played along with the whole ‘surprise’. My sister had no idea! The food on the day was spot on and we have lots of fussy people in our group. Never known food at function to come out hot and so tasty. I had the salmon which was amazing. We also stayed in the hotel and had a family room which was perfect for my husband, 3 boys and myself. The rooms are decorated with class and sophistication. I would highly recommend this hotel, not only for the food, location but the experienced and extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff.
1 star to reflect on how staff our treated by managers. My daughter was taken on at £8.50 an hour part time. She loved her job and decided to go full time. They gave her a new contract and asked to just sign it when she tried to read it but being young at the age of 17 she just signed it. When I had alook at the contract she Brought home they'd put her pay down to £6.30 without telling her but was paying a girl 2years younger a better pay as her dad worked their. She then was turning up to work only to be told her shifts had changed but they hadn't updated her rota on for. This is disgusting and we have decided to seek advice. The house keeping manager bellan does not seem to be able to keep her staff.
Quick at responding to your queries before your stay, it was a great place to stay, staff were very friendly, and helpful also, my dog is scared of laminate flooring the boss kept moving the rug for him which I was thankful for, I would recommend staying here so close to everything the beach is beautiful my dog and daughter lives staying here, so close to the outdoor pool also everything is so close, it was like home away from home especially with my severe anxiety and disabilitys, my mobility isn't great some good days some bad days, very helpful staff happy to help nothing is a bother to them, I would stay here again with my daughter and my dog, he loved it here, just waiting for my refund now due to having to change dates due to my brain injury, forgetting days times who I am where I am going, everything is close to hand, thank you for having us, all the best
We chose to stay at the The Queens Hotel to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. The Hotel has its own ample parking for residents which was one reason that we chose it. The huge stairs at the entrance was a bit tricky to negotiate with our luggage. Once inside we were immediately impressed by the stunning decor in the hallway and in the dining rooms. This hotel looks the business. Our room was very clean as one might expect and we had a great view of Southsea Common with its war memorials, a hovercraft and numerous ferries going to and from the Isle of Wight and France. We could also see Clarence Pier. The Spinnaker Tower that is next to the entrance to the Historic Dockyard was visible from our window. The Spinnaker Tower looks close by but this turned out to be deceptive. It was actually 2.5 miles away by foot so we had to use the car and park in the Historic Dockyard’s car park. The food at the hotel was amazing. Very tasty and presented so well it looked too good to eat. One of us has numerous food intolerances. The hotel’s restaurant was able to accommodate this to a great extent. Our only criticism would be that the menu one got depended on what type of booking one had made with the hotel and we were frequently given the wrong menu. What was on the menu was also the same every day but that wasn’t a problem for us. On the whole we felt we were being looked after rather well.We would definitely like to stay at The Queens Hotel again and would recommend this hotel to others.
