Poor billing practices — watch out for hidden fees

Poor billing practices — watch out for hidden fees. I was unexpectedly charged $250 for a subscription I never agreed to. I initially purchased access to this service in 2023 and hadn’t been billed in 2024, leading me to believe I had a lifetime plan. Then, out of the blue, a $250 charge appeared on my credit card. When I contacted the company, they only offered a partial refund or to switch me to a lifetime subscription — which is what I thought I had already secured. After looking through other reviews, I found that my situation isn’t isolated. This same issue keeps cropping up, and it appears the company hasn’t adjusted its practices. Many users report being gifted a subscription or believing they made a one-time payment, only to face auto-renewals a year later without any notification or receipt. I reached out to them the same day I was charged and waited 48 hours for a reply — they ultimately offered just a 50% refund despite my clarification that I wasn’t using the service and didn’t want it. My recommendation: avoid this service and don’t give it as a gift. The content isn’t worth the hassle of surprise charges, lack of renewal notifications, and limited refund options. A reliable company shouldn’t depend on hidden renewals to retain customers.

Deceptive billing methods

Very poor billing methods — be cautious of surprise charges. I was billed $250 for a subscription I never signed up for. I initially bought access to this service in 2023 and wasn’t charged in 2024, so I assumed I had a lifetime plan. Then unexpectedly, a $250 charge appeared on my credit card last week. When I contacted the company, they only offered to refund half the amount or convert me to a lifetime subscription — which I thought I had already purchased. After looking at other reviews, I realized I’m not alone. This issue is frequently mentioned, and it seems like the company hasn’t changed its ways. Many users report receiving gifts or believing they made a one-time purchase, only to have it auto-renew without any notification. I reached out the same day I was charged and waited 48 hours for a reply — they ultimately offered me only a 50% refund, despite my clear indication that I didn’t want the service. My advice: avoid this service and don’t gift it. The content isn’t worth the hassle of surprise charges and limited refund options. A reputable company shouldn’t depend on hidden renewals to retain customers.

Incredible cooking series

Incredible cooking series. For beginners like me, watching top chefs on video helps ease the intimidation. I just saw a chef make fresh pasta, and now I’m inspired to try it myself. I’ve never done this on my own before. A+ - 🤙

Absolutely love this service!

Absolutely love this service! I’ve been a member for a couple of years and recently upgraded to a lifetime membership, which was very reasonable. They calculated my upgrade offer based on my previous payments, which speaks highly of their integrity and customer service. I highly recommend it — especially for aspiring chefs looking to enhance their cooking skills while exploring the world through engaging lessons and stories.

This deserves less than 1 star

This deserves less than 1 star. I find the service to be a scam. I signed up on November 24, watched a bit of a class, and decided it wasn’t for me. I requested a refund, but a representative tried to convince me to stay because they claimed another class was amazing. When I insisted it wasn’t for me, I received no further communication. Additionally, the help section is hard to navigate. They seem to rely on this to frustrate customers and avoid giving refunds.

Gift card purchase mishap

I attempted to buy two gift cards for my kids as Christmas presents with a BOGO special over a month ago, but I accidentally purchased one subscription for myself that started immediately, which I didn’t want. The issue remains unresolved, so I’ve given up on the gifts and will just use the subscription I unintentionally bought.

A generous gift that I cherish

My stepson gave me a lifetime subscription to this service last Christmas, which was incredibly generous, and I absolutely love it. As a somewhat experienced home cook, the videos have elevated my skills significantly. The cinematography and locations are stunning. I highly recommend it!

Consistent results every time

Everything turns out as expected, it’s amazing. If something doesn’t work out, it’s on me, but if you follow the instructions and take your time, it’s a lot of fun. They have numerous recipes, but as we go through our favorites, which will take a while, I hope they add new ones! Definitely worth the investment!

A bitter experience

I had lost hope in this service, but after reading reviews, I see I’m not alone, and others should be aware of potential issues with memberships. I gifted my wife a membership on December 24, 2023, which she enjoyed through 2024. On December 23, 2024, we received an email for a discount on renewal, which we ignored. Her membership auto-renewed at full price the next day without my knowledge. When we sought to cancel, we learned about the auto-renewal feature. We were offered a choice of a lifetime membership for the price we had just paid or a 50% refund. I chose the latter and received the refund promptly. However, my credit card was charged again later without authorization. I brought this to their attention, but since then, we haven’t received a response and feel scammed. I will ensure our auto-renew feature is disabled and wouldn’t recommend this service. They are doing a disservice to their chefs with these practices. *Update* Within 12 hours of this review, I received a refund and an apology, which I appreciate. Despite the poor experience, the classes were quite good.
