Review Time
I tried to open an account with my atypical business setup. The process was great and I had high hopes, only to receive the feedback that an account can't be opened with my setup, no reason can be given and it is a final decision.
Other banks check the key factors early in the process, before you upload your ID and give all the other personal details and inform you whether you can continue or not. And they do offer an option to delete the account&data - with Airwallex I now have 2(?) tickets and a slow response time to those.
I received a $10,000 payment from my client via a link. They are absolutely right to see it as a risk and restrict the account, but I have completed all verification documents, correspondence with the client, the invoice issued by the company, the contract I made with the client, and everything including KYC verification. However, my account has been suspended for days, and despite repeatedly sending urgent emails to requesting information, I receive very slow responses with no resolution. My account is still suspended, and this has caused me incredible hardship. My client wants to make the second payment under our contract, but I'm afraid to send my bank details. You shouldn't do this. I believe you need to resolve this issue urgently.
I used Airwallex for my website for nearly two years, and I feel obligated to warn others about my experience.
The first major issue was settlements — transactions regularly took around 10 days to reach our account, which caused serious cash-flow problems. This is completely unacceptable for a business.
The second issue was their system errors and outages. Their platform frequently failed, and when problems occurred, customer support was practically non-existent. Do not expect real support — the experience was disastrous and incredibly frustrating.
After two years of usage, Airwallex suddenly closed our account without providing any clear reason. No proper explanation, no accountability, no respect for the customer.
The way this was handled felt discriminatory and deeply unprofessional. Airwallex shows zero regard for its customers and operates however it pleases, with no transparency.
Honestly, I struggle to understand how a company with this level of service and conduct is allowed to operate in Australia. I would strongly advise businesses to think very carefully before trusting Airwallex with their payments.
Airwallex represents a serious operational and financial risk for legitimate businesses.
In our case, despite:
a legitimate online business with a multi-year operating history,
millions in processed transactions with established PSPs,
a very low historical dispute rate,
zero disputes, chargebacks, or fraud indicators on Airwallex,
full KYC/AML compliance, complete documentation provided, and
an explicitly agreed reserve already in place,
Airwallex abruptly terminated services without warning and reclassified 100% of our operational balance and reserve as “Reserve” for 180 days, without any objective explanation.
No prohibited products.
No delivery failures.
No customer complaints.
No network alerts.
Just a generic “cannot comment” message and immediate operational paralysis.
This is not a neutral compliance measure.
It is disproportionate, opaque, and operationally destructive.
What makes this especially concerning is that our experience is not an exception.
A brief review of public feedback shows hundreds of similar cases, following the same pattern:
sudden freezes or terminations,
full balance holds,
no meaningful dialogue,
no timelines,
no factual justification.
This strongly suggests a systemic policy, not isolated risk management.
Any payment provider can talk about compliance.
What matters is how it is applied.
Airwallex’s approach creates a situation where compliant businesses can have all operational funds immobilized overnight, based on internal discretion, with no transparency and no proportionality.
That is not risk management.
That is counterparty risk.
For businesses that value predictability, operational continuity, and basic legal balance, Airwallex is not a safe partner. High risk.
Unreliable service. Account frozen without explanation
I run an online store selling products manufactured by our own company. I used Airwallex as my only banking provider for three years. One day, without any warning, they froze all my accounts and deleted all issued virtual cards linked to multiple services. This immediately disrupted our business operations and prevented us from paying suppliers and receiving payments from customers.
My assigned account manager completely ignored all my messages. Customer support failed to provide any clear explanation and informed me that the account would be blocked for six months. I did not violate any laws or policies — I was simply receiving customer payments for goods sold through my website.
After significant effort and multiple checks, I managed to make a few supplier payments. More than six months have now passed. My account manager has never responded, support only sends generic template replies, and I can no longer even access my account.
I strongly do not recommend Airwallex. They are unreliable and can block your business without notice or explanation.
My experience with the service has been extremely disappointing. I encountered an issue I've never faced with any bank before: a transfer simply vanished. On 17/12, I sent a transfer of 18,225.78 AED to the UAE, but the recipient never received the funds. After contacting their bank, it was confirmed that there were no signs of any transfer, and they suggested reaching out to the service. They affirmed that the funds were sent and provided a USD transfer receipt. However, this raises questions. When I requested proof that the funds were actually deposited in the UAE bank, they ignored my request and continued to send the same USD document. I am certain the problem lies with the service, as previous transfers to this recipient were successful, and now they have failed to assist or provide evidence. It's incredibly frustrating that a financial institution cannot manage their transfers effectively, or worse, seemingly allows a transfer to disappear while neglecting customer concerns. I anticipate their typical response will be an apology and a suggestion to contact support via email. I plan to write another review in a month to update on my situation, though I’m not optimistic. I strongly recommend avoiding this service.
I had a very positive experience with the support team. The case was managed professionally, featuring clear communication and prompt follow-up, particularly during the payment tracing process. The team offered precise information and assisted us in resolving the issue effectively. A dependable and skilled support team. Much appreciated.
This service is effectively consolidating various financial solutions (banking, expenses, etc.), seamlessly integrates with my accounting system, and provides faster, more cost-effective international transfers while offering additional payment options across Asia. Absolutely perfect!
