5CO02 - Week 1: Tutor Support Session

The session with Mark today was fantastic! Initially, I was quite overwhelmed, but after our session, I have a clear direction to follow. I'm truly grateful for his guidance. Mark has an incredible ability to break down complex concepts into easily understandable everyday examples.

Avado CIPD L5 Experience

I'm currently doing my second module of the CIPD L5 course. I feel incredibly supported by Mark my tutor, he has the patience of a saint, gives great examples, is very quick to respond and even puts in extra sessions with us to make sure we understand what needs to be done in order to pass the assessments. In terms of the learning content - I have nothing to compare it to, but I find it a bit dry at times. I wish there were more real life examples of how methods can be applied within the people practice and more videos of real people sharing their learning or explaining methods.

Mark is fantastic - Avado are not.

Having not been in any formal education for over 15 years, Mark has been a great tutor and really helped ease learners in at the start of the CIPD L5 qualification. He is patient, able to reword things to support a lot of different learners at once and overall, very likeable. Unfortunately, Avado have really messed up. They state upon starting the course that you'll get your results for each Module before Monday at 1pm if you submit your assignment by 10am the week before. So it's a 1 week SLA. Since the Christmas break where no marking at all was done for 11 working days, they have not been able to catch up and even half way through February, modules are taking 2 weeks to be marked. The problem with the way it works is that they only allow you access to one module at a time and each module opens the day of the deadline for the module before. That means if you fail (refer) on anything and you need to redo it, you need to balance that with learning a new module at the same time, with whatever else you have going on (personal life, work etc). Many of us submit 2 weeks early to allow 1 week for marking and one to resubmit if needed and their delays have prevented allowing ourselves that time for 2 consecutive modules now. They are sending the same copy and paste message every week about receiving a 'high volume of assessments to mark' but they operate on a cohort system meaning they know exactly how many assessments to expect!I wouldn't recommend them for this reason.

Positive online atmosphere

The tutors are supportive and they guide you. The learning institute has a positive people practice. Everyone is friendly and positive. Especially Britt, I like the way she explains and she makes everyone feel welcome. My advice is to keep going and hopefully the results will come.

Customer service from Mona

The customer service I received from Mona was outstanding. She explained everything clearly and thoroughly, addressing all my questions immediately and with patience. Her communication was both professional and approachable, which made the experience really positive.I appreciated that there was no pressure to make a decision on the spot. Mona gave me the space to go away and think about it further before proceeding, which made me feel respected and valued as a customer. It was a refreshing and reassuring experience overall.

No response to queries?

Bad service, made an enquiry a month ago regarding CIPD Level 5 payment plans and they have completely ignored me. I had to make a second enquiry 2 weeks later under a different email and they rang me, the man on the phone couldn't be less interested in onboarding me -- he sent over some guides and then have not heard anything else since, no attempt at contact, nothing.Also, charging people for resubmissions? Money grabbing to the highest extent! Ending up going with DPG for my CIPD, cheaper and faster response time.

My organisation have funded my level 7…

My organisation have funded my level 7 qualification. I did my level 5 at avado too. I am stunned at the significant decline in quality of service, availability of student success team, the platform is relatively new for level 7 and compared to level 5- it’s utter rubbish. The tutors are inconsistent ans this is a very dizzying and unenjoyable learning experience. I am tempered to just leave and fight for a refund. Appalling

CIPD Level 5 People Management (HR)

If you’re someone who already has fairly strong experience or education in HR/ L&D - then it gets the job done. It’s good in the sense it has really clear deadlines to meet, unlike with other providers where it can run on indefinitely which doesn’t work unless you’re really self-disciplined. On the other-hand, it’s not the same as being at a college or university in that the experience is very hands-off with your tutors. You get a couple of tutor support sessions per module where you’re in a Zoom meeting with lots of other learners with the tutor reading through slides. Given given the timings of these sessions - there’s not huge opportunity to ask questions as there’s so many people in the room. If you do have a question, it’s online through the hub, or through a form which isn’t personal, and can sometimes be inefficient time-wise. There’s no 1:1 time with your tutor. My cohort had a situation where an incorrect word count was advised and we were advised of the change just a few days before the deadline, with many learners having completed and submitting their assessments. We also had a change in tutors 3 or 4 times over 11 months - therefore you’re not always getting a consistent experience.If you want the qualification and don’t have the time to be educated at college, then you don’t have much choice to pay for this virtual method. But is this method of learning really value for money? Probably not. If you’re looking for a more hands-on approach, try a college/ night school. Tip for HR Learners: Buy Armstrong’s Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice - it really helped me with my assessments and I found it to be much more relevant than the training material Avado provides.
