It started innocently. A back brace. That's all I wanted. That was eight years ago and I have since returned for a tennis elbow brace and a pair of mittens, and I am genuinely concerned about what I'll be ordering next. A full exoskeleton, probably. I'll let you know.

Here's the thing — the back brace still works. EIGHT YEARS LATER. I have shoes that didn't survive eight months. I have houseplants that didn't survive eight days. This brace is outlasting everything in my life except my stubbornness and a vague sense of optimism.

The tennis elbow brace arrived earlier this week. Beautifully packaged. Delivered promptly. Works perfectly. I'm starting to think Back on Track NZ is just quietly keeping me functional and not making a big deal about it, which is honestly more than I can say for most relationships.

**Important life hack nobody tells you:** keep the zippered bags. Mine lives within arm's reach at all times like a very responsible adult. Bad day? Brace on. Few hours later, sorted, back to normal. It's basically a pit stop for my body. I roll in, get the work done, and roll back out. FORMULA ONE ENERGY.

Also — and I cannot stress this enough — if you're in NZ and have an ACC claim number, this might cost you nothing. NOTHING. I'm not a financial advisor but I am a woman who got a back brace and that's practically the same thing.

Now. The mittens.

I bought mittens. I am a grown woman and I bought mittens because I had a revelation on a cold Melbourne tram platform that gloves, while technically keeping out the weather, leave your fingers in a state of individual suffering. Mittens let your fingers share body heat like little flatmates huddled around one heater. Revolutionary. Why did nobody tell me this before? I have been cold for years unnecessarily.

I received the mittens. I put them on immediately. They were magnificent. It was a cold Taupo morning, unseasonably cold — this autumn has had the audacity to be freezing at 8am and almost summery by noon, which is just rude — and I was READY. Mittens on. Striding toward the door. Feeling like a woman who has her life together.

Then I looked down.

Shorts. I was still wearing shorts.

The mittens came off. We don't speak of it.

I am also planning to ride again, and I have already decided what rugs and boots my next horse will be wearing. My horse will be better dressed and better supported than most people I know. This is fine.

Back on Track NZ: keeping me upright, warm, and only occasionally ridiculous. Absolutely five stars. Please keep making things because apparently I need all of them.

Back brace

My husband uses the back brace and definitely finds it effective when traveling or walking. My experience for many years was the knee brace and because that's definitely the best on the market we have bought other products.
