I sold my Spanish property a year ago and emailed the bank to close my account around April 2025 ...I was told that I would have to use "online banking" in order to close the account. I never had access to online banking so they recommended that I sign up to it hahaha. Allegedly it's the only way that an account can be closed...was told that the account had to have a zero balance before the account can be closed ...but when the balance did reach zero they added a 40 euro maintenance charge and then added overdraft fees on the top of that ... This bank needs to be investigated for unfair practices... Please don't go anywhere near this bunch of scammers the last contact I made with them was yesterday (a full year after my first request to close the account

Summary: close my account because we have moved from Spain. seven phone calls with help desk amounting to over 3 hours - and one supremely arrogant call from their back office. Task: reduce both savings and current account to zero balance to close account. Actions: Tried to transfer money to another account in my name - refused for fraud prevention. After numerous phone calls, managed to get fraud stop lifted and balance to zero. Had closing account regulations read to me and agreed. Three days later, notice closing amount sent to my other account TWICE. My Sabadell account is now in overdraft - even though I don't have overdraft facilities. Call again, 'so sorry everything will be fine'. Receive aggressive and arrogant call from 'back office'. 'Your account is in overdraft pay now. 100% their fault but I'm treated like criminal. Avoid at ALL costs. Santander is the sensible alternative.
I wouldn't even give a one star for them. I've never had so bad service before. I've claimed water leakage on first of December, and still waiting for job to be done/completed (it's the middle of April now). I keep ringing them every week and getting promises only. Higher institution was involved too, but didn't help much, as work still not done. Just want to share my bad experience to protect others.
Do not apply for Homeowner's Insurance at Banco Sabadell AKA Blink Insurance under ANY circumstance. They have no customer service, they do not answer their phone, they do not tell you the basis of any rejected insurance claim. They simply reject it and refuse to give you any explaination in writing. All they do is collect your premiums. AVOID Banco Sabadell at all costs!!!
On the 9th of March, I received notification from Gestagua that my water consumption was higher than normal and that I should check for a leak. I found the leak fairly easy turned the mains off and called Sabadell Help Line. After numerous attempts a gentleman answered and was helpful. He gave me a claims number and said sombody would contact me within 24 hours. True to is word a plumber turned up next day and took photographs and said he would send it to Sabadell. The following week I got a call from Zuric insurance in Madrid asking if I had made a claim. I confirmed. I then got an email from ESZ seguros BSSG siniestras @sabadellzurich saying the had no record of my claim and could I supply them with further information. I did this immediately and recieved the same email again. I asked how they managed to supply the plumber with information if they didn't have the information!! The following week I rang the helpline again and was told the claim was in hand and an assessor would come out to look at the problem. Another week has gone by and NO assessor. So for 3weeks now we have technically been without water. We are buying dringing water from the supermarket, using water from the pool to flush the toilet. We turn the water on for about one hour every night to shower, use the washing machine and do the laundry. We have just had a water bill of euros 256.47 which is normally about 150 euros.Today I am going to repair the leak myself. I am pissed off as I have just paid this years insurance. I have been paying house insurance since 2017 and never made a clain. My friends who are with Mapfre have had a new TV a new computer and had their water leak repaired within 2 days!!!Bravo Mapfre. Guess where my next payment for house insurance is going. I contacted the Insurance Ombudsman but they will not interceed untill I lodge a complaint with Sabadell. I have tried to find somewhere to do this but to no avail. Sabadell I have given you 2stars you only deserve 1. The star is for the helpful gentleman on the phone.
This is just the worst organisation I’ve ever had the misfortune to have to deal with. They are pathetic, uncaring and useless. Their staff don’t care and are incompetent. Their processes don’t work. Their IT is awful. They are by far the worst example of how to be an abhorrent bank. You have been warned.
