I ordered a new electric Ford Capri from Group 1 Ford Basingstoke and initially the salesman, Andrew Billard, was helpful up until the point of handover. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after that.
When I collected the car, it had numerous defects:
• Bird droppings had caused paint erosion
• Scratches and scrapes on the roof
• A dent in the roof
• The interior display screen was twisted
I returned the car for repairs. They attempted to polish the paintwork, but it looked as though it had been done with a scouring pad and actually made things worse. I was told Andrew would contact me regarding the remaining scrapes and dent, but he never did. From that point on, I received complete radio silence — no returned calls and no replies to emails.
I asked for the branch manager’s contact details to make a formal complaint but was refused and was only given the sales manager’s details (Wolfgang). I submitted a formal complaint which was completely ignored. I then escalated the complaint to Group 1 Ford head office, but again it was ignored and they failed to follow their own complaint handling timescales.
On top of this, the car suffered from constant electrical faults. The dashboard was permanently lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights. I even took it to a different Ford dealership for repairs, but the problems kept returning. In the end, I had no choice but to change the car completely. I will never buy a Ford again.
Since then, I have spoken to several other Capri owners and many have experienced similar electrical issues. One person I spoke to also purchased from Group 1 Ford Basingstoke and described Andrew Billard as very pushy. She also had to make a complaint after he went radio silent on her as well.
This reflects very badly on Ford as a company, and even more so on Group 1 Ford Basingstoke’s management and sales team. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and customer care is shocking.
I would strongly recommend avoiding this dealership if you value proper service and aftercare.

Food is great ,customer service by front of house person was abysmal. Upon arrival we advised the lady on the reception ,there were 4 of us, and both couples had “Taste Cards”,she promptly told us there were no tables for 4, so we asked if we could have two tables for two, she said yes but they are not near each other.? After voicing our disgust and disapproval we agreed to sit apart and was promptly shown to 2 tables for 2 next to one another, we reminded her that she told us there were no tables next to one another and you have given us two tables next to one another?,and also there were at least 4 table's for 4 empty in the same area of the restaurant, she chucked the menus on the tables and walked away.unbeknown to us the manager had overheard and came over to us asking do we want a table for 4 we said that’s what we have been asking for but your colleague was very unhelpful. She apologised and sat us at a very acceptable table and served us herself. We did nicely advise her that the other girl needs customer care training. The meal was excellent.
We have been hiring from the fantastic Steve Peacock at Basingstokes hirebase for months while doing our renovation. They are fantastic and the best price around too. They have everything that we need and are helpful, flexible and knowledgeable. Steve is a great guy to deal with, we are so pleased and as long as he is there we will keep coming back. Thanks hirebase
So nearly a year since I ordered my new fiat 500 promised in May 2022 and yet here I am still waiting for delivery or in fact any information on when I might receive it - do not trust these people they are still taking orders for cars advising delivery dates they can't meet - a little bit of honesty or customer service would go a long way - I will never purchase a car from these people again
