I had a very disappointing experience with Bring a Trailer. The platform does not seem to encourage open and honest discussion, comments feel restricted, and I was limited in my ability to ask questions or participate fully in bidding.
There is also virtually no customer service or any meaningful way to speak with someone directly. Trying to get assistance feels impossible, which is unacceptable for a platform handling high-dollar vehicle transactions.
The community aspect was equally frustrating. Instead of thoughtful discussion about the vehicles, it often feels like people are more focused on getting attention or collecting likes for their comments.
On top of that, the buyer’s premium is excessive for what the platform provides. Overall, I would strongly recommend exploring other avenues for purchasing vehicles before committing to Bring a Trailer. There are better, more transparent options available.
Prospective buyers should consider the feedback available. It's strange that you can ask the seller about specific mechanical and bodywork concerns, yet the seller can completely disregard those inquiries. If there are issues to hide, it's better to refrain from answering questions accurately. It's advisable to read the feedback.
This platform allowed dishonest individuals to post comments filled with false information and unwarranted criticisms to sabotage my vehicle sale. Even after the auction ended, this behavior continued! The entire process has been frustrating and time-consuming. Instead of attracting genuine interest, the service did the opposite. I'm concerned this negativity will affect future listings. They ignored requests to remove clearly inappropriate comments and even deleted some of mine that were not aggressive. After receiving my payment, their responsiveness vanished.
This platform allowed dishonest users to spread misinformation and make baseless attacks to undermine my vehicle sale. Even post-auction, this behavior continued! The whole experience, from before the auction started to after it ended, has been nothing short of a nightmare, a waste of time, and incredibly distressing. The service failed to generate genuine interest or buyers and instead did the opposite. I'm concerned this negativity will affect any future listings I make. They also disregarded requests to remove inappropriate comments, even after flagging them. To top it off, they deleted some of my non-aggressive comments. After they received my payment, their support became non-existent.
I used to enjoy this platform years ago when it featured unique cars for sale elsewhere. The owners have ruined it with greed. There's no reason to pressure sellers into no-reserve auctions or to control listing wording so strictly. They profit regardless, but at the expense of their customers. I'm not a high-volume seller or buyer, but I will avoid this service until they revise their practices. A 1.4-star rating isn't something to be proud of! There are other venues for buying and selling cars, and the word is spreading on forums about what real customers think about this platform. Improve or continue to decline.
The auctions themselves are enjoyable, and selling a vehicle here can be quite fun. However, once the vehicle is sold, it doesn't go as smoothly as advertised. The platform boasts about its checkout process, but the buyer found it misleading, suggesting it was the only payment option. The third-party vendor they use is unresponsive and has a needlessly complex process for paying the seller. Payment was unnecessarily delayed.
A no-reserve auction I was bidding on was supposed to end today at 3 PM EST. Instead, it was extended to 5 PM EST due to 'outages,' and then pushed back another 24 hours. The platform claims this is due to outages affecting all auctions, yet many others ended on time. Additionally, one commenter mentioning outages also happened to be bidding, which raises suspicion.
Any auction under $15k is treated as a no-reserve auction. When I inquired about having to honor bids below my vehicle's value, I received no response. I have records showing that after the auction began, I would not accept offers below $10k. The car ultimately sold for $6500, while I had invested $9500. I refused to take that loss; it was my choice, not theirs. They blacklisted me, which is fine; I won't engage with them again. Please don't waste your time with this platform. They expect unrealistic values for classic cars, and the customer service is severely lacking.
Is anyone else frustrated with all the 'additional security' measures platforms are implementing to reduce verification while providing minimal value for the fees charged? This service has a history of facilitating high-priced sales for unique vehicles, but it primarily benefits sellers. I purchased a vehicle here in 2022 and paid their exorbitant auction fee just to have some photos and information listed. I handled all the coordination with the seller and logistics for transporting the vehicle, taking on all the risk of sending payment. If they continue to charge such high commissions without offering value, their business will struggle when the market shifts, which I expect will happen soon. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but I will choose friendlier auction sites in the future.
This review platform does not allow me to share my original review, so I will summarize my concerns: I'm beginning to feel uneasy and disappointed about the moderation of honest comments. A post I made during an auction was not allowed. As an owner of two award-winning restored vehicles, I expressed hope for the seller's success and accurately predicted the final price. I challenge the platform to allow this comment and respond. Many would like assurance that honest conversations are not being stifled. The cancellation of my post raises questions about potential market manipulation, which is disappointing.
