Review Time
I got overcharged $90 by a street vendor who quoted me $10 but charged $100. When I confronted the vendor for a refund, they refused and told me to 'call your bank.'
I filed a dispute with Capital One and they denied it saying I didn't provide enough information. They sent me a detailed dispute form via DocuSign which I filled out completely, answering every single question.
Capital One denied my dispute AGAIN with the exact same reason - 'lacks all previously requested information' - even though I submitted their entire form.
When I called to ask what information was missing, they said I needed a receipt from the vendor. But the vendor is a street cart that doesn't give receipts and already refused to help me. A receipt would just show $100 anyway - it wouldn't prove what price they TOLD me.
Capital One is requiring impossible documentation and using that as an excuse to deny valid billing error disputes. I've now filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
If a merchant scams you and refuses to give you receipts, Capital One will not help you. Their dispute process is a joke.
Capital One restricted credit card 3 times over past 2 days and required multiple documents submission only because my daughter tries sending $100 to Transferwise. Each restriction requires a 20 minute call and document submission, after which they said they will review documents for up to 10 business days. My daughter was traveling internationally at that time and that was her only means to pay. Customer service was absolutely helpless and said they cannot expedite the process and that I was talking to the highest level manager in the bank.
I've tried to pay my kohls card for 3 months...then even set up auto payments...in the space of 5 days my bill jumped $100..I never applied fir this card I applied for kohls and then trying to get someone to talk to is impossible...another greedy bank who can't even pay enough people to answer the phones...once I've paid my $46 kohls that turned into $233 I will close my kohls and never shop there again! Amazon/chase is much better!
I currently have 4 accounts with capitol one, the oldest being opened pre-covid. I have had jobs with direct deposit and recently (4+ years) had jobs who only issue paper checks. I have worked at the same place who uses the same bank as usual for almost 2 years. Capital one emailed me advising the check raised flags and they suspected it would not deposit. I called the first time, manager was argumentative. Called a second time, manager manager was unsympathetic to my bills being due this weekend. Called a third time, threatened to close all of my accounts and apparently these managers do not have supervisors. Who knew! Apparently these people are directly supervised by the president of Capital One himself. No sympathy, no attempt to clear my check or call the bank. I will be closing my accounts and the credit card I have with this bank as soon as it clears.
They sent me an email threatening to close my account if I didn’t verify my personal information and update my income. This rubbed me the wrong way, but I did it anyway. They persisted to call me and email me requesting that I update my information and that if I don’t my accounts will be frozen and closed. I called back and updated with someone over the phone and explained that I had already updated per their last request. Needless to say I updated it once again. Finally, I was out of town on business when my wife called me claiming the debit card wasn’t working, so I called capital one and was informed that my accounts had been closed and checks had been mailed to my home and should arrive after 10 days. I challenged their assumptions that I hadn’t follow instructions regarding updating my personal information, therefore had my accounts closed. They held strong that there was nothing they could do and I escalated the issue up the chain which took precious hours of my time. They finally found their mistake and admitted it, but couldn’t do anything to help me except for reinstating the accounts with zero money. Once I received the checks I ln the mail I deposited them into the accounts an they placed them on a 10 day hold for being suspicious checks over balance of the accounts, this was because of the zero balance in the accounts resulting from their incompetent mistake and the absolute power to do as they please with our money. I lost a life insurance policy due to non-payment resulting from their mistake, missed important payment deadlines on other credit accounts resulting in a hit to my credit, and this resulted in my life insurance premiums going up due to the lapse in coverage. Now they have changed our debit cards to discover and we must change everything over on all accounts in order to keep up with their incompetent BS. I’d rather pay more for an account and have good service than work with a discount poverty bank. I’ll be switching banks promptly to Chase Bank because they have been offering be much better service. I also tried running my Contruction business accounts through capital one and that didn’t work out either. This institution is a discount bank with bad customer service. You get exactly what you pay for with them.
I barely my use my Capital One Venture card because I have been denied credit line increase on a few occasions. However, I used my card during my trip to Portugal in October, but most of what I used during that trip has already been paid. I even make extra payments and make my payments as soon as I am notified about being due the following month. Then at end of December my vantage credit score dropped by 3 points because Capital One approved me for a new card ( They won't approve me for a credit line increase for travel, but they approve me for two additional credit cards. After I called for several days trying to figure out why score went down in stead of up, I was finally transferred to a rep at Credit Wise. I have spoken to some really rude customer service reps in the past, but this rep, an African American Gentleman was so rude. When I would ask a question his tone was extremely standoffish, as if I was bothering him. He would even raise his voice, saying As I SAID SIR. After nothing was getting resolved I decided to hang up.
One of the reason's I was told that my score won't increase is because I don't use my Venture Card enough, but when I use it, my score goes down. So I end up with a being damned if I do, damned I don't situation.
I am very dissatisfied with my checking account now. Since the transition to a new service, the overall quality has dropped significantly. The most frustrating issue is that my debit card gets declined even when there are sufficient funds available. It's incredibly embarrassing to face a payment rejection for no apparent reason, especially when I know the money is there. The customer experience has been poor, and I no longer feel confident using this account for my daily transactions. A checking account should be reliable, but this one has proven otherwise. I am currently considering moving my funds to a different option.
Given the current economic situation with inflation causing many to lose homes and vehicles, it’s disheartening to see a lack of assistance for people trying to improve their lives. The focus seems to be on profit rather than helping others. This is truly disappointing. A change is needed to offer individuals a second chance; everyone deserves that opportunity. While people may make mistakes, they often reach a point where they can correct them, but this service does not provide that chance. I wouldn’t give this any rating, as there are no stars that would suffice.
During my overseas trip, I encountered a fraudulent charge on a virtual card. The entire card was cancelled, and the support team refused to expedite a replacement card. It's expected to take three weeks, with no guarantee of receiving it in that timeframe. This is a travel card designed for adventures.
I feel it's crucial to share my experience after applying for a credit card to help build my credit as a student. I was initially approved for a $500 limit with a high interest rate of 28%. I intended to use this card responsibly to pay certain bills on time each month to improve my credit score. However, when I received the card, I was unexpectedly denied access and instructed to contact the fraud department. They requested various documents, including my driver's license, three months of bank statements, and utility bills. I submitted a screenshot of my power bill and a detailed three-page bill from my internet provider. After waiting eight days and explaining my situation, I was informed that my power bill was denied because the provider wouldn't verify my information. This has resulted in late fees for bills I was trying to pay on time. I can't believe how poorly this has been handled; it feels like the company is complicating the lives of those trying to improve their credit. I’m incredibly frustrated and plan to switch to a more reputable service with better rates. My experience has been overwhelmingly negative, and I doubt I will recommend this service to anyone.
