Today, we received an explanation of benefits from our Medicare Supplement provider showing four claims totaling $9,180 from a vendor we weren't familiar with. After some investigation, we discovered they sell urinary catheters, which we do not need. We also found similar charges exceeding $6,000 on a prior statement. We have reported this fraudulent billing to both Medicare and our Supplement provider.
I was billed over $11,000 for items I never ordered and had never heard of this service. I've reported this to Medicare and my supplement provider, and it seems I'm just one of many affected. A new Medicare card is on the way as these charges accumulated over six months.
This operation billed my Part B insurer for $11,745 for urinary catheters, and Medicare for an unknown amount. I promptly notified my insurer, who did not process the payment, and Medicare. I have never needed urinary catheters. I hope they face legal consequences soon.
My Medicare statement indicates that this service provided me with $9,180 worth of catheters, which they did not. This is Medicare fraud, and based on what I've seen online, this fraudulent catheter scheme seems to be their norm. I've reported it to Medicare and will inform my insurance company, as they have already paid their share.
