Review Time
I had a car accident in 2022 and it has only now been settled at court 3.5 years later as a 'no fault' to me. My car was written off and whilst the value of the car was settled at the time, the increased insurance following the accident was immense. My insurance premium went from £277 before to £984 after the accident.
I have always understood that in the event of a no fault settlement, the increase in premium is refundable.
Churchill have offered me a £27 refund, which is a slap in the face after everything I have been through.
The aftercare following the accident was very poor and now after this pathetic refund, I would definitely not recommend Churchill to anyone.
Churchill handled my claim quickly and for me, effortlessly. Within 24 hours I had a courtesy car delivered, my car was repaired and returned to me in excellent condition. I was kept up to date at every stage, very good communication, which I found very reassuring. What was a worrying experience was made smooth and trouble free for me.
Honestly don't ever take car insurance with this company, absolutely useless and unhelpfu. My car was hit by a car being chased from the police. The insurance company told me they couldn't ring the police and was taking ages for the report which they weren't ever going to get because the police said there was no report and just provided me with a car registration that hit me. In the meantime my wife's insurance goes up as I was on her policy because I was a "high risk driver". In the end I felt like I had no choice but to cancel my claim and try to fix it privately, almost 6 -7 months later I'm still unable to find the money to get it repaired.
I would leave 0 stars if I could. Churchill have had my car since 3rd February (now the 17th February) I have advised it has been written off, nor repairable. Yet I am still waiting for them to advise and payout. In my policy I pay for a courtesy car, that they only provide if they are fixing the car! This would be fine with f it did not take them so long to complete the claim. It has me that has constantly chased them. I was advised timescales incorrectly by one of their colleagues that Churchill then paid me £25 compensation for! However, the call handler then advised me that by yesterday I would receive a call from the claims team regarding the payout, and then from her to ensure I had received the phone call. No surprise, I have not received either phone call. I called them as soon as I got home from work to an automated response that they close at 5 PM. Every time I have called them (during my working day) I have been on hold for excessive amounts of time, they do have an option for them to call you back when you are next in the queue, but I’m unable to do this in my work as I may then be on the phone to a customer. I thought when I chose Churchill car insurance I was going to a reputable company, one that if ever needed would be trustworthy. I was mistaken. Curious how much longer it will be before payout and without a car because of their courtesy car loop holes which means you don’t actually get one, even though it’s what you pay for!
For once on renewal of car insurance the price went down! Even though I could have got renewal slightly cheaper by switching, I decided to stick with Churchill because they evidently are not just trying to fleece loyal customers. Other insurance providers should take note..
“Dealing with Churchill Insurance feels like you need a second insurance policy just to handle them! Every interaction brings new headaches, and the customer service often leaves you feeling more frustrated than reassured. It’s like they’ve got their own version of ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ for every claim!” This is the Third Time !!!
I renewed my insurance in October and paid the full amount for the policy. However, the funds were returned to my bank. I contacted the service multiple times, and they assured me I was covered, which was recorded. Then, on Christmas morning at 12:15 am, I was suddenly asked for a full payment of £300. Thank you for this holiday surprise.
I had to rate this company with one star, but I would have preferred to give none. This is the worst insurance provider I've encountered in my lifetime of purchasing home insurance. I paid for legal protection as well, which has proven to be completely ineffective, and the delays have been outrageous. I have one claim from September 2023 and another from February 2025 related to damages caused by my neighbor. The company handling the claims seems to prefer crafting their own narrative rather than accurately reflecting what happened, which is misleading and prevents them from paying out. I wanted to hire a surveyor for a chimney stack report and drone footage, but instead, they first assigned a company that failed to complete the job, which led to another company being brought in. All of these appointments seem unnecessary and subpar, contributing to the rising insurance premiums we all face. My neighbor has caused damage to my property twice now, and my insurance and legal cover should be protecting me, but they are doing everything to avoid responsibility. It’s a complete farce! This provider is associated with several well-known names in the industry, and I cannot recommend them for your home insurance needs. They have let me down and caused an immense amount of stress. My experience is tied to the second incident with my neighbor, as I've had to deal with numerous long emails, letters, and calls involving the entire insurance process to even remember the first incident back in 2023.
The handling of my claim and repairs was outstanding in every way, with everything completed to a high standard. The provided rental vehicle met my expectations perfectly. However, I was disappointed to see an 80% increase in my renewal premium, which forced me to explore other options. It's unfortunate.
I took out a home insurance policy and it has turned out to be the worst decision I've ever made in my 60 years. After a neighboring property caused water damage to mine, I reported it and filed a claim on September 25. The company, like many large insurers, simply transfers claims to subcontractors. These subcontractors then pass the work to their own teams, and that's where the nightmare begins.
Their inefficiency is astonishing, and describing it as "painfully slow" barely scratches the surface. To keep this review concise (the full story would take all day), the first contractor who came to address the bathroom damage wasn't even qualified to deal with plumbing issues! Consequently, he couldn't remove anything connected to the water pipes. It's amusing now, but six months later, if I hadn't taken control and sourced my own tradespeople, my property would still be in shambles.
I've already spent £4.5k out of pocket! The subcontractor mentioned that they wouldn't even start repairs until January 2026! For a one-bathroom property, this is unacceptable.
Clearly, this insurance policy is not worth the paper it's printed on. Just imagine waiting six months for someone to potentially start fulfilling the contract.
I am currently waiting once again for their complaints department to decide if they will compensate me for doing their subcontractor's job. Even if they agree to settle, it won't cover my time, logistics, or the stress of dealing with their incompetent subcontractors.
I urge you to reconsider before purchasing a policy from this company. My family and friends will never consider using them again. Be cautious—there are sister companies that also operate under different names, making it hard to identify them until it's too late.
Have you ever tried to reach a case handler? You might sit on hold for 30 minutes, only to be disconnected. If you’re fortunate enough to have your call answered, you’ll leave a message and likely never hear back.
My handler's phone system has been faulty throughout this claim, which only prolongs the process. When I finally received a callback, I was informed that it wasn't their policy to cover my expenses and they offered to reimburse about two-thirds of what I spent. I made cost-effective choices, so their approach seems focused on minimizing expenses rather than resolving issues quickly and properly. This experience starkly contrasts the image they project in their advertisements.
