Review of NVQ Level 5 Construction…

Review of NVQ Level 5 Construction Management with Construction HelplineThis is both a review and a heads-up for anyone thinking of doing this course — hopefully it helps someone.I completed a government-funded NVQ Level 5 Construction Management course with Construction Helpline. The setup was meant to be straightforward: two months of evening classes, then complete written questions and upload evidence for your portfolio to achieve the qualification. From the start, however, things felt disorganised. There was confusion about whether the NVQ was Level 5 or Level 6 — staff gave different answers, the documents didn’t match, and even the tutor wasn’t sure. As students, we had very little information about what to expect, which didn’t inspire confidence. The evening lessons themselves were good — our tutor was friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. Honestly, that was the only reason I gave this course even two star. But once the lessons ended, things quickly went downhill. We were supposed to be assigned an assessor before the course finished, but months went by without one. No dates, no updates, and most of the time emails or calls went unanswered. This lack of communication became a theme throughout the course. We had been promised “constant support,” but in reality, we were left on our own to figure out the questions and evidence requirements. When assessors were finally assigned, communication remained poor. Uploaded work often went unmarked for weeks. In our student group chat, nobody was hearing back, and progress stalled. It wasn’t until I repeatedly chased that I finally received an evidence list — something that should have been provided right at the beginning. By then, months had already been wasted. The only way I managed to complete the qualification was through my own persistence and independent research online. Support from the provider was minimal at best, and non-existent at worst. to my knowledge, out of a group of around 30 students, only two of us managed to complete the NVQ, which says a lot. To make matters worse, they even changed our assessor mid-course without telling us who the new one was. After passing, I ordered my black CSCS card through Construction Helpline. The confirmation said 7 days, but after waiting 2 months, I chased them and was told it would actually take 8 weeks. In reality, it took 4 months before the card was even ordered. Despite me confirming my new address multiple times, they still sent it to the wrong one, so the card was lost and I ended up paying for a replacement myself. At that point, I couldn’t face another round of chasing them for months on end.In short:If you want the qualification for free, this company can provide it.Don’t expect support — you’ll need to rely on your own research.Be prepared to chase constantly to get your work marked.Consider ordering your CSCS card yourself, rather than relying on them.Normally, I wouldn’t complain about something that’s free, but this course was government-funded, so the company was paid. With that in mind, the lack of organisation, communication, and support was unacceptable.Good luck to anyone considering it — just go in with realistic expectations.
