We had a great experience with the Cross Country Moving Company. Mark, our relocation consultant, was fantastic: very friendly, communicative, and always available for the myriad questions I had. The moving team on both ends were professional, friendly, and took care of our belongings. They were super efficient. I would use this company again in the future.
The initial estimate and scheduling was easy, the movers on both ends were quick and professional, and our moving agent Freddy was easy to reach throughout the process. We had a few days of warning for both the pick-up and drop off, and the movers stuck to their schedule. We felt that the company was committed to good service, and that no one was trying to rip us off Overall, CCM did a great job with our move, and they really heled to reduce the stress of a big transition. I recommend them for anyone consideration a life altering move.
We started the process of finding a mover with very low expectations. This industry is in desperate need of regulation, laws, and consequences for bad actors like Matthew Chevalier and Cross Country Moving company. They (Matthew Chevalier) will swear up and down (lie) that they are an actual carrier but when it comes time to ship your house hold goods they will simply sell your business to the LOWEST BIDDER and pocket the difference. Some of you "free market types" may think this is okay. Here is why it's not. They outright lie to you about the service you are about to purchase by making you think your precious memories and goods will be handled by professional movers they directly hire, train, and maintain. They will not. They will hire out the literal cheapest movers possible who will in turn pay the most pathetic wages you can get away with. Now instead of having paid $8-10k (for professional movers) for a cross country move your shipment is now being handled by the cheapest labor money can buy. Ask yourself do you want an angry underpaid guy handling all your house hold goods (some of which are literally irreplaceable)? I think most would say no. Finally they will claim that they are only registered with the Department Of Transportation as a Carrier Only (US DOT 2626333) which is technically true. However this industry is so poorly regulated there does not seem to be any consequences for brokering out your move to the lowest bidder anyway, despite having told you they wouldn't. This explains why a lot of bad companies have such wildly different reviews because sometimes the cheapest movers are not available (booked up) and they manage to hire a decent outfit out of sheer necessity *though they will still charge you nearly double of what it actually costs. BOYCOTT THEM.
Asked for a quote for 1300 cubic ft of inventory. The rep said they quote based on inventory & that is how they can charge lower rates than competitors. He sent a quote based on my inventory list, & I followed up with a video, as requested. We settled on a date for packing/moving. The day before moving, the rep said that based on the video I had sent 3 weeks prior (20 days exactly), the move would cost $2,000 more than they quoted. They made sure we didn’t have time to find a different company to move us from CA to PA. He said it would take a full day for packing/loading, but I did not expect that to be from 12- 1:30am (for 1 bed, 1 office, 1 nursery). They played Tetris with the truck because they sent one for 1100 cubic ft instead of 1300. Also couldn’t fit our lawnmower so we had to leave that behind. They asked us to go to McDonald’s at 10pm for them. At 1:30am, they left 20 boxes, packing tape, and (McD’s) trash everywhere. We received an audacious email from the rep in the AM saying we owed an additional $1200. We called him to ask how, when he had the video & inventory list for 3 weeks. Instead of explaining what we were being charged for, he berated us, then hung up. He then texted that he was calling dispatch to tell them to return our stuff & they would charge us for all of the packing & moving. His texting was frantic, full of contradictions & he wouldn’t answer calls. We called the main line & connected with a manager, who was barely better than the rep. After we explained the situation to him, his response was that we didn’t need to go get McDonald’s for the crew, & that they don’t use videos as a means to compile an estimate (even though that is what they used 2 days prior to say they needed to charge us more before showing up). We had no choice but to pay. We were moving across the country with our 4 month old & this experience was so incredibly stressful. After googling, I realized others had issues with that rep as well. A side note, he said it would take about 5-7 days for delivery; it was 14. After unpacking some items, realized several were broke and then packed that way. A few items were broken and packed as separate pieces, indicating they knew they were broken, said nothing, and packed them for us to open glass shards.
Do not use this company!! The movers took my Breathing Machine after I told them not to pack it in their truck, I went 5 days without it. They gave me a quote of $ 2890 then the day of the move charged me over $10,000. They changed the pickup and delivery dates 3 x, and damaged my wood furniture, chipped and scratched!! They were only moving a Household of 1 person. They moved me from CA to AZ
I absolutely do NOT recommend Cross Country Moving Company! They told me given our circumstances (i.e: my husband being in the hospital because he needs two organ transplants) and me moving and being across the country all by myself that they would have my stuff here no later than the 20th of December. The last update I received Thursday morning (the 16th) told me the truck was in Nevada (not that far from Cali) and then it went radio silent. When I called to get more info I was told it would now be the 24th-25th…or possibly later. They took our stuff on the 9th. That's over two weeks. They know my situation and they know I’ve been without any of my things (including my car because they took that separately.) all while having to travel back and forth to the hospital (because the moment we landed in California on the 13th we had to take him to the hospital and he was admitted.) I even paid extra and had them take our stuff days before we got to Cali in order to make sure everything would be here no later than the 20th. Between the truck going MIA. Being told one thing and paying extra for it. I can’t recommend them and I truly wish I went with someone different (but they were rated well….although I can’t fathom why at this point.)
It’s been a great experience to have the cross country moving. I moved across the country and it did helped a lot. The workers are friendly and efficient! Even though they notified you 48hrs before the delivery, the delivery time is negotiable for the moving hot season. I really appreciate that!
This was my first move where I actually had a lot of stuff to move out of state. I think I may have been a bit paranoid at first when considering my options. I didn't want a company taking advantage of the fact that I didn't know too much about long distance moves. I didn't know what a good price was or what sort of service options were best. I took tons of time to read online and called around to every place that seemed capable of doing the move. Cross Country rubbed me the right way. They were very laid back and didn't push me to schedule asap over the phone. They also told me how they handle the long moves which seemed like the best method. For anyone looking for info about long distance moves. Do your research as much as you can because there are some shady companies out there. Thankfully cross country movers was not one of them. Great Movers.

Have you been busy planning a long distance move? I remember my first time moving across the country all by myself. It was complicated, messy, and a lot of work, to say the least. After seeing how much time and effort goes into moving, I got the idea to start my own moving business. At the very beginning, it was just me and a couple of my close friends with the same aspiration. A few years later, we managed to grow and build a professional moving business that operates across almost all of the US States!See more
