The WORST service I have ever experienced! AVOID THIS AIRLINE!
I have been waiting for over 4 months for Ethiopian Airlines to compensate me for my lost luggage (Flight from Zambia to Belgium). After 120 days of total silence, they are now attempting to bypass international law.
They are trying to force me into the 'Warsaw Convention' (reimbursement by weight) even though the 'Montreal Convention' is legally mandatory for this route. To make matters worse, they are demanding original receipts for personal clothes purchased years ago—a clear bad-faith tactic to avoid their financial responsibility.
It is shameful to treat passengers this way.
I will not stop until I am compensated according to my legal rights. If you value your belongings and your peace of mind, do not fly with Ethiopian Airlines
This is the worst airline I ever had the misfortune to use. Family with three sleeping kids (together with 5 other families) held the last in line to board the plane, without any sorry at least, especially in a delayed flight. The planes on route Addis Ababa- London gatwick is disgusting, dirty. The flight attendants miss lines when providing the dinner, you have to search for them, otherwise they do not come (i pressed the button twice and nothing).
How did this airline get the title of the beat african airline I have no idea. Please spare your time and mental health, AVOID!!!
The same situation occurred with my mother. She had a flight scheduled for January 11 to a destination, but upon her arrival at the airport, she learned that the flight had been rescheduled to January 13 without any prior notice. This left her stranded for three days and two nights at the airport, forcing her to pay for hotel accommodations out of her own pocket, which is completely unacceptable! To make matters worse, upon arrival at her destination, her luggage was missing. This has been the worst experience with an airline.
Imagine being at the airport, ready to check in, but time goes by with no one at the desk. When you call the airline, they inform you that your flight was canceled three months prior. Upon checking your email, you find it was only a time change notification. They show no willingness to accommodate or even apologize. The communication is filled with a lack of respect and attitude. Their best offer is to place you on a waitlist for a flight that departs nearly the next day. This experience reflects a dysfunctional and disrespectful service.
I want to be fair and honest: the service onboard was exceptional. The cabin crew were friendly, polite, and truly helpful. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight of my experience. After arriving at the airport, we waited at the baggage carousel for what seemed like an eternity, only to realize that no more luggage was arriving. About 10–15 other passengers were in the same predicament. When we approached the baggage desk, the staff were not very helpful. We spent a long time filling out forms, with minimal explanation of the process or how long it might take. In total, we were at the desk for around an hour and a half before we could finally leave the airport. Our luggage was eventually delivered 23 hours later. I understand that delays can occur, but the lack of communication, guidance, and basic customer care at the airport exacerbated an already frustrating situation. I would also like to mention that, according to airline policy and relevant regulations, when luggage is delayed for close to or over 24 hours, passengers — especially those in Business Class — may be eligible for compensation of up to $150. This was not mentioned or explained at any stage during the process. While I appreciate the excellent service onboard, the baggage handling and ground support significantly detracted from the overall experience.
I am writing to convey my dissatisfaction with the service. I traveled from a city in Cameroon, and my flight was over an hour late. This led me to miss my connecting flight from a major hub to my final destination. The airline rebooked me on a flight to another city before my final stop, resulting in a six-hour delay in my arrival. The most frustrating part is that I had a separate reservation from my final destination to another location, which I also missed due to this delay. Now, I find myself stranded in the major hub with no choice but to wait until the evening for another flight. The airline did not respect my time or schedule. If my initial flight had left on time, I would have made my connection. Instead, I am facing over 48 hours of travel time because of their delays. The limited flights to my final destination and the poor management of my situation are unacceptable. I sincerely hope the airline makes improvements in its punctuality and customer service.
My luggage, along with that of at least 25 other travelers, was not delivered to the destination airport. The airline did not arrange for it to be delivered to me. I had to make a three-hour journey back the next day to retrieve my bags. Additionally, the plane was carrying numerous suitcases from a previous flight where others also hadn't received their luggage. To make matters worse, when I picked up my bags, the smaller one had its 'Airport safe' lock torn off, and some items were missing from it.
While the seats in business class are decent, the in-flight service falls short compared to other airlines I’ve used. The crew does not seem to adhere to safety protocols. The only positive aspect is the availability and connection from my home city. However, check-in for business class at the airport was too slow, and the vegetarian food options were lacking. The salad contained meat, and the crew merely apologized. My baggage has yet to arrive, and nearly 60 passengers are in the same situation, waiting for updates.
This was undoubtedly the worst airline experience I have ever had. This airline feels like a nightmare, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. To make matters worse, I later learned there was a flight available that day, yet we were told otherwise. When seeking assistance, the staff were rude and unhelpful, offering no apologies for the inconvenience. The hotel arranged by the airline was equally poor, with issues like a non-working key and no accountability. The food was among the worst I've had on an airline. Long queues and disorganization were constant. Overall, this airline lacks professionalism and basic customer service. Expect delays, rude staff, and poor communication. I will never fly with them again.
By far the worst airline I have ever dealt with. I strongly advise anyone considering flying with them to avoid it at all costs. Their staff and service are rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I flew from one city back to another, and upon arrival, I found my bag had been cut open—not just damaged, but literally cut in half. Three months later, the airline has shown no accountability or urgency, and I have received no compensation or support. Their lack of responsibility is shocking. This airline clearly does not care about its customers or their belongings, and the treatment I received was unacceptable. I will never fly with them again and urge others to stay away.
