I bought this travel insurance for myself, my wife, and my 15-month-old son. I’m glad I did because it covered search and rescue costs, which many cheaper policies wouldn’t. This was a big relief when I had to make a claim. However, the claims process was frustrating. It took months to process, and I had to keep chasing for updates. Communication was slow, and I never got clear answers on when it would be resolved. After filing a complaint, they finally sorted it out and gave me £200 in compensation for the delays, which I appreciate. The insurance covers a lot, but if you ever need to claim, be ready for a long wait and poor communication. It’s a good policy, but they really need to improve their customer service.
Not sure how I initially heard of Explorer a few years ago, possibly via a price comparison site. Noticed that the registered office was less than a mile from home, cost of cover was amongst the lowest so have used them since then.Easy and quick to set up a single trip policy at the last minute which is important to me as my visits to Australia are made at the last minute. Not needed to claim yet.
Excellent service from a small British company. Paid my claim for cancelled travel promptly and in full. Good communications, easy to speak with a real person. I have used this company for long haul travel insurance for several years. I have a medical condition but Explorer is still the most competitive policy. Don’t take my word, try for yourself.
We have used Explorer Travel Insurance several times in our family. Only this year did we have to make a claim. The team were excellent! Very helpful, informative and prompt in their responsesI would recommend Explorer Travel Insurance to anyone!
The process is easy to obtain the kind of insurance you need whether short or long trips.I have been extremely please when I renew mine each year for a long trip and they have always dealt with any insurance claims easily and fuss free. Highly reccomend.
I had acute altitude sickness while backpacking in Peru and struggled with getting a phone signal to call the insurance company. They have a 24/7 emergency email and are also available 24/7 on WhatsApp with very quick assistance. This was the first time I have had any such issue when so far away from home and they were extremely supportive. Even after I was discharged they contacted me for updates on my condition and with help and advice on how to get to a lower altitude safely. The costs of my treatment were covered by thr company with no issues. I'd definitely use this company again. They made a very stressful situation much easier for us
This company’s website is very easy to use but I would not say that the premium was competitive as I found a policy a thousand pounds cheaper with a household name insurer. However, the true measure of an insurance policy is when a claim has to be made as their claims are administered by Gallagher Basset something which is not at all made clear. Gallagher Basset’s reviews on Trustpilot are absolutely shocking annd in my experience rightly so. Ask them who andministers insurance claims Explorer Insurance have essentially washed their hands of the whole matter. We are still in the middle of a claim from February, and I foresee that I will be taking both companies to FOS. Since posting the above I have been advised by them that they do mention on page 40 (yes page 40) of the terms and conditions document that they use a claims administration company. However insurance contracts are termed contracts of ‘utmost trust’ and all relevant terms should be clearly displayed. It seems to me that they have contravened this and also FCA guidelines on such contracts, as nothing pre-sales mentions a separate claims company. Also policies are underwritten by another company which they claim means that they are acting on behalf of that other company, that is not my understanding of a policy being underwritten but again not mentioned in pre-sales literature. It seems to me that they are not taking responsibility for anything and hiding behind very very small print. I think this should be tested before FOS.Actually rereading page 40 it does not mention claims management companies at all, never mind Gallagher Bassett. It seems to me that between them one company gets all the the good for all the pre-sales work and Gallagher Bassett gets 94% bad reviews which is why I suspect why Explorer Insurance do not mention them in their documents.
