F1 TV is truly a ripoff. I subscribed for 1,5 years and the races were constantly ruined by inadequite buffering and server capacity. I was in contact with helpdesk 5-6 times and they provided no workaround or compensation but always suggested that the problem was at my end. I believed this until I saw the number of complaints against the company.I have 250MB internet access and whenever there is a glitch I check local equipment first. In a sport that has an extreme level of capital investment and the high quality of the Sky Sports coverage, one would think that streaming the coverage would be easy considering todays advanced technology, but F1 TV has managed to completely fail.
Always bad streaming quality, lag, glitches. I have a 30-100 Mbit connection and are struggling to be able to read the graphics on screen for most of the time. It just seems to lack the appropriate amount of buffer, or it sends the stream in to small packages so it becomes terribly sensitive to latency issues. If it wasn't because of the relatively low price, and the fact that it's the only way for me to watch F1 with the British commentary in Sweden, I would never pay for this service. Without a doubt the worst streaming service I have ever paid money for. Also, the way that the different broadcasts are presented on the home screen of the app is not ideal. During a grand prix day, you shouldn't have to go in and out of different streams to watch the pre-race show and then the grand prix. At least automatically transfer the viewer to the grand prix stream when the pre-race show stops, or present a link or something. IT all feels very old and unintuitive.
Great experience with the overall streaming service. I watch the race live whenever i can. Great steaming quality and love the additional data feed (i watch stream on laptop and feed on mobile). They had issues with the first live feed but improved dramatically over time and now its perfect. Way better commentary than anything translated on local networks. My only issue is this: Please enable 'spoiler-free' mode. Let's say i sit to watch the race 1h after start, when i start the stream it automatically goes to live, which kind of spoils the fun a bit, i'd love to have the option to not see the live results and watch the replay.
Another ruined F1 race this weekend, due to this hopeless application. My service has taken another big step backwards in the past month, and no longer works with my first generation chromecast, despite the chromecast device working flawlessly with every other application. On my laptop, with a 450Mb/sec Fibre To The Home connection, I continue to get buffering mid race. Still no news from F1TV about when they will make the service compatible with LG televisions, one of the biggest manufacturers by market share! F1TV are guilty of mis-selling this service on a number of counts: The service cannot be considered as "Live" when we are subject to buffering, and their claimed compatibility wth chromecast is in my case no longer true.
Worst thing I've ever paid for!Had it for a few weeks and it never worked once.Customer service is horrible, they told me after weeks of having it that I would have to wait 2 weeks after the races to watch them! They told me to upgrade which I tried to and couldn't as it wasn't an option on their site and then when I informed them that, they gave me some of my money back but not all of it with no email response or explanation. I emailed them to say how disappointed I was and didn't even get a response ( hence this review ) Worst customer service I've ever dealt with, waste of my time and ripped me off massively.100% don't go there. Shame as I love F1. Very poor at the very best :(
