DO NOT TRAVEL WITH A DOG ON THE FERRY
I took the ferry from Genoa to Barcelona. Firstly they didn't know where I should drive in with my car and were yelling around at each other and send me all over the place. That was bearable.
Please please please IF you have a dog, drive there IF at all possible, DO NOT take the ferry with your dog. I thought it would be nicer for him as he gets to stay with me in the cabin and we can go out on deck to pee and poop. But the deck was a disgrace! Is it really that difficult to put some artificial grass or something in the dog area? How can you make a dog pee and poop on a normal floor, it's disgusting and most dogs wont't do it as they learned NOT to do it.
Then I know it gets slippery on deck and I was careful, nevertheless if you are only wearing tennis shoes, you have no chance on the stairs. I slipped and fell really badly on the metal stairs. My trip was a week ago today and I still cannot walk properly, I'm brutally bruised.
And when it was ready for check-out I was told that I have late check-out at 3pm as I have a dog, they knocked at least 3 times on my door from 2pm-3pm telling me to check out.
I swear that I will never take the ferry again, I will rather dive 16 hours or more. Way better for me and my dog.
Also, if you cancel and you bought the cancellation insurance, you still get charged and then they send you an email with a name who you have to contact... I had to google them and look for contact information as it was not included in the email. I cancelled my first trip 2 weeks ago as I thought I would drive and then decided to take the ferry after all. I'm still waiting for my refund... Unbelievable!!

They told us we should be in the port 2 hours before, so one is expecting to board during these 2 hours and just wait to sail away. Instead we waited until the very last moment to enter and all of a sudden everyone was in a hurry for us to move. In the cabin there was no warm water so having a shower wasn't a option anymore. In the morning they told us that we will be arriving 1 hour earlier and demanded from us to leave the cabins in 15mins. The stuff started to talk loud outside our cabins and clapping for us to get out. I think next step was to start hitting a pot with a spoon. So they got us out in a rush and in the end we just arrived on time. Not 1 hour earlier. And to top it of, we were waiting to get out for almost 1 hour after the predicted arriving time. I wouldn't mind all this if the ticket wasn't costing as much as it did.
I have just taken a trip from Palma de Mallorca to Barcelona. I found the staff good. EXCEPT, when I reached Barcelona... I am a man of 66 years of age. I was travelling with 2x heavy bags. In Palma 2 crew members help me carry my luggage up the loading ramp. BUT... The off loading staff in Barcelona stood back and watched me struggle down the off ramp with my luggage... making negative comments but not offering to help.NEGATIVE, BAD, DISGUSTING
Seems impossible to achieve such mediocre level of services. Our second try this year. First trip in January from Genova to Tanger was a disaster in check in. Hundreds of passangers in a stuffy hall served only by 2 clerks. Unloading was a disaster with no assistance of the crew.Today they are unable load vehicles at all.They accept overloaded vans with judge overloaded trailers which are unable to enter the gangway. It takes over half an hour to get one such vehicle on board.Departure already delayed by 2 hours and not even half of the cars loaded.Already 6 hours waiting in the termina
I got the notification that the trip was cancelled 3 days before the ride. And you have to make a move in order to get a new ticket for another date or to get the money back. When I called the German number there was only an Italian lady who could talk a little bit English. She told me in an annoyed way, she doesnt know why it was cancelled. At least the money transfer back went fast. But now we have to replan the whole trip and change all the hotel reservations. My guess is that they cancelled because there were not enough bookings. It's winter now.
Fourth tie we took GNV as no other carrier is providing the route. Both times, delays ( until 2days), both times ship change, category we booked was not same. Ships are old, dirty and not in good conditions. Cold, thin blankets, Cabins ruined, old and broken furniture. Bath dirty, broken plates, sinks and rusty. Mold in the rooms. Decks dirty, no Options to have a seat. Some staff doing their best and are very friendly. Supervisors needs a teaching in code of conduct, recognize touchy situation to female employees and unfriendly on top. Restaurants- at least a la carte is good even if not everything is available. Nothing to do on this boat... no activities provided,
Had to cancel booking due to a medical emergency and lost 25% of original payment, which is fine because that was clear when I booked.Had confirmation of refund by email and chased 2 weeks later but told it was being processed. Called 2 weeks later and told it would be paid latest the following week. Called end of following week and told it was 45-60 day refund policy. Not impressed.
Boarding the ferry from Barcelona was pretty straightforward despite a big queue to register. Once on board the staff were really helpful and a guy carried my bag up the stairs for me. The cabin had clean bedding and was generally fine. The food was ok, not fantastic. After reading some reviews on here I was absolutely dreading it but it was actually perfectly ok. We arrived in Genoa 5 hours early about 7am which wasn’t a great problem except it took quite a while to disembark. Overall - not quite Brittany Ferries standard of food etc but perfectly ok.
