I ordered strawberries for zone 7b. Our average last frost date is April 7th. They arrived from Gurney's on February 15th. Undoubtedly, they will die (yes, they're in a cool, dry place) and, when I ask for them to be replaced, I will be told that they are out-of-stock. I called but the customer service guy was obviously just reading from a script.

Only giving one star because I have to! I am so disgruntled with the dishonest email promotions of free shipping with discount codes that never work. Since this is an order I usually make once a year I just always end up paying the shipping costs that should be free and shrugging it off but today I tried to contact customer service after two hours between a buggy chat function and call my problem was not able to be resolved. I was given a variety of useless “free shipping discount codes” that never work and told I’d have to spend $15 more in order to get it to work. I will not be spending $.01 more with this company!
I ordered a jujube tree. When the order was received it was an oak tree (validated by an app that identified it). It was nowhere near the picture on Gurney's website of a jujube tree. When I contacted customer service and offered to send a picture, they told me they validated that it was a jujube tree and to go ahead and plant it. The trees are not cheap and I do not need another freaking oak tree. I searched Google and there is absolutely no jujube tree that looks like the one they sent me. Their customer service needs improvement. I am so frustrated.
I had made a $200 order in February. I received most my order sans a peach tree (true gold variety), I received an email telling me they ran out of stock, obviously they took my order knowing they did not have it. The email said that if I wanted the tree, do nothing and it would come for fall delivery. So I did nothing. Fast forward to few days ago; check status of order, it did not show in my account. So I emailed for a status update. Get email back 2 days later saying yes we cancelled your order and refunded card. Well that was a gift card that I exhausted and threw away. I called customer and was told nothing they could do, too bad. Well I have bought from Gurneys on and off for 30 years, I will never buy from Henrys', Gardens Alive or Gurneys. These are all the same company and use a what appears to be an off-shore customer service phone call center. They never gave me an opportunity to make decisions with my order, even though they had my money for 8 months, then just cancel order without a email to inform me, even though website currently shows the tree available for spring order. Since I do not have that gift card and they refunded without consulting me, that money is gone, $80. Horrible customer service, even earlier in the year when some of my pine berries did not grow and fern did not grow and I called. I was told to wait even though things had been planted for over 2 months. They never did grow. Will never buy from any of this companies websites and I suggest everyone think twice about ordering from these people.
This company took my order for plants they knew they did not have. When I purchased they were in stock and when I checked they were out of stock. I received 2 of them a month late. The other two I have not received yet and the shipping date has been pushed back to November. Too late to plant. I then demanded a refund for the remaining product and was told that the order had already been processed and the couldn’t. This issue has pushed up the ladder. What pisses me off is that you never get to speak to anyone that speaks coherent English. I will NEVER order from this company again.
I’ve ordered from Gurney’s three different times, and each experience has been disappointing. My first order was for strawberries, most of them died after planting, and the few that survived produced nothing. Then I ordered a blueberry bush, which they canceled after months of waiting with no notification at all. I decided to give them one more try and ordered starter peppers and tomatoes — several died, and only a few produced a couple of decent tomatoes. Most recently, I ordered garlic, and what I received were tiny, unusable cloves, nothing like what was advertised. The shipping times are outrageous, and the quality is nowhere near what’s promised. After reading so many similar complaints, I honestly don’t understand how this company is still operating the way it is.I won’t be spending any more of my money here.
Not only did they ship me an expensive plant that was not just dead but actually rotting, but the customer service IN INDIA was rude and dismissive. Refused to give me a refund, would only give me a credit on a future purchase (why would I buy from them again?) or they'd send me a replacement NEXT YEAR. Could not get a supervisor and I will have to just dispute this with my credit card company.
They lied about what was in stock. After I ordered the shipping dates just kept slipping, lost over a month of growth waiting on my shipment, only to be shorted trees. Now I have credit and have to wait until next year to reorder. I will use Jungs from now on.
I ordered sweet potatoes May 11th (spring) they said they send them out in spring... I hadn't recieved them weeks later. I asked for a refund and they said they'd give me a "replacement Certificate". I wanted a refund but they said their policy is not to give refunds and I quote "for an item that is not currently in stock but is scheduled to return in a future."Their website said they were available in the spirng... its still spring. Give me my 38.86 back
