Just arrived home from an escorted tour to Cairo and Nile cruise. It's been an Amazing experience and we will definitely be returning to Luxor. We have had an excellent itinerary with very knowledgeable guides. Our tour manager Hassan is the most attentive, organised, hard working and very genuine man who made our tour very special. The organised visits were chosen well, Hassan's planning was impeccable and we always felt safe at all times. Cairo is very busy and a bit of a culture shock at first but it is a must in order to visit the pyramids. Sensational!!!! Our hotel was beautiful, the staff were great and the food was varied. Drinks are really expensive there...£36 for two vodka lemonades, 😲 flights to luxor were very easy as Hassan had everything prepared in advance and luggage is also looked after. Luxor is beautiful, we will definitely be returning. Our boat, although a little tired looking, was clean and comfortable, we had a suite which is still quite snug. Not much room for unpacking therefore we had most of our belongings still in the cases and i believe the other cabins were even more compact. The suite comes with a hairdryer but it was first come first served for the non suites and there are no ironing facilities. The food was again, varied, picky eaters will probably struggle but on the whole it was good. Our highlight apart from seeing all the magnificence that egypt has to offer, was the boat staff. They are so friendly and helpful and as the days go on they get to know everyone on a personal level which we found to be great
The Triton hotel has been extended and refurbished which is very nice. Unfortunately every time it rained, which was a lot and very heavy, the new area, reception and the Saga lounge flooded and covered in towel, which made just walking around unsafe on tiled or decking floors. Because of this in the Bar below, the ceiling was also leaking, this meant there was towels everywhere to soak it up as well as the poor staff having to keep mopping it up. You do not expect this in a new building. I requested a change
I thought Saga had updated their customer service systems including payment portals etc. but I was mistaken. I am still on the phone after 45 minutes with very little hope of my call ever being answered. Perhaps they imagine that everyone over the age of 50 has nothing better to do. I tried to pay the balance of my holiday today, only to get an automated message that the payment portal was out of service but I should use the tlephone payment methd instead. So of couse I tried. The message said that it did not recognise my booking number...3 more attempts and it finally did. Then it did not recognise my date of birth.....5 more attemtpts and then the robot voice sent me through to a travel advisor who for some reason is not there. What am I supposed to do now?

So SAGA you sent me a reminder that the balance of our holiday needs to be paid in the next 7 days, well done. This was a timely prompt, I probably would have forgotten to check and make the payment, so your reminder was perfect, however having received the prompt I went immediately to manage my booking - as requested and guess what - the portal is down for Maintenance!This is all automated as we know so please just join the dots, I will not charge you this time for my valuable consultancy, but address this, it is an easy fix for the right person.
