A year ago on January 7th 2025 started the most financially devastating Fire in the history of United States.
It was a year ago, but for us Palisades Fire Survivors it fills like it was yesterday.
It was just like yesterday the Fire Trucks arrived at our house with mandatory evacuation, smoke clouds were so thick that we could not see anything. Just the grey Ocean and brown clouds of Smoke.
We left our home and started driving not knowing where, together with thousands and thousand of displaced families in Los Angeles. All roads were packed with cars and people just left them and started walking…
All hotels were full and I said what about Homeexchange let me try…!
Few minutes later we found Homeexchange and our hosts were ready to take us without any questions. We stoped at the cafe to finalize our exchange and there was a glitch in their system.
I emailed to Homeexchange help desk but truly thought no way we will be able to make it tonight, since it was about 3 o’clock at night in Paris.
In less than 15 minutes, Homeexchange helped us to finalize our exchange and our children had a place to sleep.
This incredible story I had been telling to all of my friends and colleges and no one could believe it is even possible.

Exceptional support from the team. I was dissatisfied with the accommodation we were in, and within a few hours, the company agreed to cover the cost of the hotel we found since it was too late to secure another place. The funds were in my account within three days. Amazing!
I appreciate the prompt response. However, I was initially accused of not paying the cleaning fee, which I wasn't required to pay. If I had taken your word for it, I could have lost €40 due to the host's oversight. I'm thankful that once I raised the issue, you verified it and agreed with me. Still, it would have been better if you had checked the facts before accepting the host's claim and accusing me.
The platform enforces a maximum on the points that can be charged for properties, meaning that high-value homes cannot be priced higher than lower-value ones, including those in less desirable locations or poorly furnished. For instance, the owner of a beautifully decorated luxury penthouse in a prime area is restricted from charging more than a basic, poorly furnished rental in a less favorable location. This policy is illogical. Why shouldn’t paying participants have the freedom to determine their property values? Overpricing would naturally lead to fewer exchanges, reflecting the principles of a free market.
The platform sets a cap on the maximum points you can charge for your home. This means that high-value properties cannot cost more points than lower-value ones, such as those in undesirable locations or poorly furnished. For example, the owner of a beautifully designed luxury penthouse in a prime area isn’t allowed to charge more than a basic, poorly furnished vacation rental in a less desirable location. This system doesn’t make sense. Why shouldn’t participants who pay a yearly fee be able to set the value of their properties? Charging too much would naturally reduce exchanges, as is the case in a free market.
The recent algorithm changes led to many homes increasing in value. I had already committed to hosting several guests during the holidays at the old rate. They refused to honor the previous rate for these upcoming exchanges and threatened to ban my account if I didn't accept significant losses. The way they managed the situation was absurd and unacceptable. It seems they prioritize their interests over those of their members, only caring when cancellations occur.
