Loved staying here, honestly. Traveling alone as a girl, I never once felt unsafe—the staff are kind and respectful, security is on point, and the whole place has a relaxed, easygoing feel. Everything was clean and tidy. 100% recommend, particularly if you’re a solo female traveler.
For many years, I engaged with the service as a small business owner of a bed without breakfast. They were exceptional—always supportive and friendly. I want to express my gratitude publicly. After a decade, I’m closing this chapter. I will fondly remember this incredible time in my life where I welcomed the world to me. It has been a true pleasure.
During our holiday in Christchurch, New Zealand, we utilized a booking platform to find a more affordable option compared to local motels. We discovered a reasonable rate for a basic two-person room with an ensuite at 75 NZD per night, which seemed ideal. We reserved it for two nights, totaling 150 NZD. However, upon receiving the confirmation email, we were shocked to see the total amount had risen to 258 NZD, a significant jump from the initial quote. When we contacted the hostel, they kindly clarified that this was indeed the original price, and they had no control over how the booking platform displayed their rates, which is understandable. Now, we wish to cancel our reservation, but it appears we won't get back the 24 USD we had already paid to the booking platform. This approach feels misleading, as it appears to attract customers with lower prices only to increase them later, making it a pricier option than others. Disappointing experience.
I had a wonderful stay at the hostel; the garden offers a lovely ambiance that's perfect for working. The area is pleasant, peaceful, and secure, with easy access to various spots around the city. The representative was incredibly helpful with all my requests and even provided a complimentary upgrade! They also allowed me to extend my stay on short notice. The only aspect that could use a bit of improvement is the bathroom cleanliness.
My experience at this lovely place was truly fantastic. The location is ideal — just a short walk to the beach, shops, cafes, and all the essentials. The staff are incredibly friendly, always cheerful and willing to assist with surf lessons, transportation, or dining suggestions. The rooftop area serves as the heart of the hostel: tranquil, sunny, and perfect for connecting with other travelers. The atmosphere is relaxed and safe, making it great for solo adventurers. I will definitely come back.
Overall, everything was fantastic! The rooms were well-organized, and the bathrooms and showers were clean. My only concern is that the showers seem a bit worn; the water doesn't flow properly from the showerhead and tends to spray everywhere, especially in the downstairs showers. The common areas were inviting, featuring movie nights every Monday and a hot tub available upon request, complete with a cozy fireplace in the back. There are plenty of little nooks to relax, sleep, or enjoy a meal. Unfortunately, the hostel cat is no longer around. :(
Steer clear of this platform; it's unreliable. Their website lacks clarity and may unexpectedly alter your booking from two guests to one without notifying you. It's advisable to book directly through the hostel's site to prevent a negative experience and avoid extra charges.

It's conveniently situated in the city center, close to public transport, offering excellent value for money. Overall, a delightful experience.
I secured a hostel booking, but when I arrived, I was told my reservation was invalid due to a pricing error. I contacted the support team and waited for two hours, yet there's been no clear response. Additionally, my refund has not yet been processed. This has been a very frustrating experience.
