HOW IS KICKSTARTER ALLOWED TO FUND…

HOW IS KICKSTARTER ALLOWED TO FUND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY?!?!

11 year customer, gone

As others have mentioned, this site hosts many known scammers. When I say "known scammers" I am not referring to creators who attempt a project and fail. I actually find the failure part quite interesting as well as I understand the initial risks of crowdfunding and know a product is not guaranteed. "Known scammers" are creators who use Kickstarter to back a project, then once the product is complete, instead of filling the orders they have, they start their own site and start selling the product, ignoring their initial backers/customers and saying their orders "do not exit". The creators basically forced all backers to be investors of their company but with no perks or benefits. Kickstarter can try to pretend they haven't complaints of this occurrence. The more they ignore these issues, the higher the ratio of scammers. At very least, they could stop hosting creators that don't fulfill orders but are selling the exact product somewhere. To note, as an 11 year customer, I have proudly backed many successful small business projects but no more under Kickstarter as their lack of response on this is appalling.

The premise behind crowdfunding via the…

The premise behind crowdfunding via the public is a fantastic idea. There are many ideas out there worthy of funding, and indeed there have been many successful products released through this platform. However, the platform is rife with fraudulent "companies" asking for and receiving funds, promising items in exchange for a person to spend a certain amount of money to get their service or product developed. Now that said, some companies go in fully wishing to fulfil their promise once they receive funding, but sadly they underestimated the costs or just weren't prepared enough for the burden of running a company. While sad, they at least explain the situation and take responsibility. Those I am writing about though, deliberately choose to ignore those they have wronged, getting off clean with their ill gotten gains. In this sense, you would think that kickstarter would also be liable, and should have implemented better practices or been shutdown. This is not the case. They are no better than those they let scam, and in this vein should also be labelled criminals. The defense that they are a third party does not hold up, they let the fraudulent activity happen without consequence.0 stars, people that run this company should be in prison.

Kickstarter supports fraudsters

If a project goes ahead and the owner actually fulfills it, then it is great but.... if a project owner decides to walk off with your money and not actually fulfill the project then Kickstarter will let them. Kickstarter protects the project owners no matter how fraudulent and does not help or even respond to the defrauded backers.

Got scammed along with a lot of other backers. Not a peep from Kickstarter. Will never back another project by them.

Kickstarter enabled OYO Fitness scam

OYO Fitness kept Kickstarter funds for their Total Body Massager with the intention of filing for bankruptcy, defrauding 2,606 backers of 579,358 USD. Kickstarter enabled this and will do nothing about it, so Backers beware!

Beware of Kickstarter

Well - having tried kickstarter a couple of times - the first time I ordered a CZUR product on kickstarter - the product was a year late and I no longer needed the technology. Right now I have ordered a Tefor leather bag. It is not a year late yet . But there are all sorts of complaints and excuses for the current lateness ... and they keep asking for more and more money .. the copmplaints come daily. I think Kickstarter is receiving their money and so is the maker ... but who knows when supporters will get their products if ever. There seems to be so many ripoffs or just bad bad investments Steer clear of Kickstarter until they can guarantee even really bad support rather than none and some people pocketing our money and not delivering on promises - this should be considered illegal at some level I am sure. I'm sure this started out as a good idea - but somethinhg has gone really wrong

This company does not care when users get scammed!!!

BE EXTREMELY WARY WHEN USING THIS COMPANY/WEBSITEToday is 24.06.2023, I backed a project about 8-10 months ago in 2022... in Feb23 the creator stopped giving updates or responding to any messages!!So its obviously a scam and the creator has taken our money and ran!! I reported this to Kickstarter last week 22/06/23 and they are TOTALLY uninterested and VERY unhelpful!!My pledge was £29 which ok isn't a fortune but along with all the other backers this creator/scam artist has got away with a few thousand pounds.Kickstarter will do absolutely nothing to help pledgers get their money back.KIckstarters suggestion was that i 'get an attorney'!!!!! what for £29!!!! so basically they just washed their hands of it!!So use at your own risk but if it goes wrong you WILL lose your money!!!

Agree with others that they don't care if anyone is scammed. Seems to be a scammers dream as they tell you there is nothing they can do. Thankfully I always pay with Capital One so if I don't get my item and there is lack of communication, I'm covered. I now will not follow any new artist or anything AI.

Nasty surprise on delivery fee

Most products I have backed on Kickstarter have been satisfactory. Postage charges are usually calculated later by the product inventors/sellers, once you have already paid for the product. The charges have been mostly reasonable for overseas post to Britain. On this occasion I think the inventors of the "Back Transformer" are ripping customers off. £ 35 postage for a product that looks so light. I am held hostage having already paid for the product. I paid the postage reluctantly since I know I will not get my product investment back. On this basis I am going to stay away from Kickstarter for all future products to avoid nasty surprises. Kickstarter really ought to have some regulation such as an estimate of postage.
