The gardens are beautiful and the children's park is quite good, but my negative review is due to several issues: 1. Pricing — far too high for what is provided. It wouldn't be as frustrating if other issues weren’t present. 2. No outside food or drink — charging high membership fees and expecting families to buy overpriced food feels greedy. 3. The discount for on-site food was removed mid-year. 4. The illuminations had too few tickets for members, favoring full-paying non-members, which feels greedy again. 5. Charging for spectators at the inflatables event is just too much. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
While the gardens are indeed lovely and the children's park stands out, my low rating is due to several issues: 1. Pricing — exorbitant for what's provided. It wouldn't be as frustrating if the other points didn't also apply. 2. No outside food or drink — charging high membership fees and then expecting families to buy overpriced food is just greedy. 3. When we got our annual membership, there was a food discount that was removed mid-year. 4. The illuminations had far too few tickets for members, favoring full-paying non-members, which feels greedy again. 5. Charging for spectators at the inflatables event is all I need to say. Honestly, your money is better spent with a more reputable organization that offers better value and supports conservation instead of a wealthy private family.
This year's Christmas lights at the gardens were an immense letdown. As members who have attended the event for the last few years, we were looking forward to the magical experience of walking around the lake with glowing sculptures and beautiful displays. However, this year, the walk was limited to one side of the lake, mostly following a dirt path lit by a single string of fairy lights. There were hardly any illuminated sculptures or trees. The main globe display was poorly positioned, and the music was loud and repetitive. The festive atmosphere was missing, and the food options were minimal. This experience fell far short of what we had anticipated, and I regret telling family members it would be the best Christmas lights event. We love visiting the gardens throughout the year, but if this is the future of the Christmas lights, we won't be returning.
We attended the Christmas light show as a family of four, spending £95. It was quite disappointing. While the lake area was nice, it was crowded and only a small part of the experience. The majority of the trail was underwhelming, with poorly lit areas and minimal features. The food court lacked festive options, and overall, it felt like a waste of money. We won't be returning.
Since they didn’t respond to my message, I'm sharing my experience widely. I attended the Christmas illuminated trail on December 20, 2025, and it was a complete disappointment. I felt the experience was poorly designed and not enjoyable at all. The price was outrageous, and it felt more like a dull walk than a festive trail. The decorations were lackluster, and I felt misled about the quality of the experience. Additionally, the staff's service was unacceptable. I expect a prompt response to discuss these issues further, as they need to be addressed.
We visited on December 18 amidst severe weather warnings. The management decided to proceed with the event despite safety concerns, showing a lack of regard for visitor safety. The light display was subpar, with minimal interesting features and dark areas. Overall, we felt misled about what the experience would entail, and we left very disappointed.
