This company is a rip-off; they took my money but didn't repair my garage door. The guy disconnected the motor and told me to open and close the door manually for $450.00. They were rude and refused to refund me or fix the door. Please stay away and contact Garage Door Tech Services! They came and completed the job!

Lightning Garage Door Co deceptive business practices

PLEASE READ, IMPORTANT: Stay away from Lightning Garage Door's deceptive business practices. My experience is mirrored by reports with Google, TrustPilot, NextDoor and Better Business Bureau. Called for an advertised free inspection. Estimate to replace bottom door gasket, after a 10% discount, was over $1,000. Tech had to use my tape measure and took incorrect measurements. Told the tech that I was going to get a second estimate. The tech became confrontational. He then showed me, on his phone, that the website now outlines a fee to be paid. The fee was $76.59. He wasn't leaving until the fee was paid and I avoided further confrontation by paying the fee. Received an additional estimate from another company for $302 for the necessary work. My research shows that Lightning Garage Door is a clearing house for local companies to perform work. Note the website has NO ADDRESS. Multiple telephone numbers and different company names other than Lightning Garage Door. Deceptive business practices that you should avoid. Referred to the Attorney General's Office and ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Warning for seniors and homeowners:

Warning for seniors and homeowners:An 85-year-old Massachusetts homeowner was charged $4,800 by Lightning Garage Door for replacement of a garage door opener and torsion springs. She was presented with only three high-priced options and was not given any written estimate, contract, or invoice. The technician initially said cash was preferred, checks were not accepted, and offered to accompany her to an ATM to withdraw cash. A digital payment link was later sent, and payment was made by check. After the service, multiple licensed garage door companies confirmed that fair market pricing for this work is typically under $1,500. The garage door still does not fully open.Tip for consumers: Always get multiple written estimates, avoid paying large amounts in cash, and verify pricing with licensed contractors before approving work.

Poor problem resolution

The day after my garage door was services (repaired at night) I noted the door did not completely close leaving space for a small animal or rodent to enter the garage. I cannot get anyone to call me back to have this corrected. I paid $1,200 for the repair.

Called several different companies

Called several different companies, Lightning…, Specialty…,,Garage Repair…for repair and they were all the same entity. Unethical sales tactics and non-transparent phone services. I specifically asked if they were all the same. I do not recommend these guys.

Poor work, up charges

As others have said this “company” is completely unprofessional, Danny manufactured problems that did not exist, overcharged for all the components and left a mess when they left.Unfortunately we paid cash and found out all of this after he left. While the garage door works now the quality of the work leaves a lot to be desired. The company itself appears to be an answering service. Ask for a manager, and Danny calls you back.Beware.

Dishonest and Mean Garage Repairman

The company (Lightning Garage Repairs) said that I would get a free estimate once the repairman checks out the problem and that someone would be here between 3-5 p.m. I got a text from Matthew that he would be there a few minutes after 5 p.m. but did not arrive until closer to 6 p.m. Matthew tried to tell me it was the motor without really looking at anything but the remote but them after I moved my car, he just reset the system by unplugging and pushing some buttons. He also told me that i needed to change the springs for $199 with labor and that the reset was a temp. fix and still needed a motor $1300 but service call would be $40-50 if I did not do it now. When I said no for now, he then told me that he was charging me $180 for the service call which he originally said was $40-50 since he fixed the issue which was less than 5 minutes. I told him that his office indicated that I would get a free estimate before repairs and that I thought he was just seeing what was wrong. I also felt that $189 was unreasonable and that he never gave me an estimate of the costs. He become very rude and threatening and then said that he was going to unfix the reset and pulled the electrical cord. While I would be willing to pay the $50 service call as he really did not do anything even though his hoffice said it was a free estimate before any repairs and I wanted to call them first but he ten said, he would take $150. I refused and he got extremely angry. I reported this to the company as his rudeness was inappropriate. As a single, older woman, his threats were extremely inappropriate and I felt unsafe so I am warning all not to use this company

Scam

Hello,A technician arrived to “balance” my garage door and immediately quoted $475.•     Before performing any work, he tried to open the door and broke the drum and cable, which led to a new quote for repairs.•     Upon further inspection, he offered to change the springs and quoted $1,050 for repair. I asked for a clear breakdown of parts and labor, but this was not provided.•     He then convinced me that “everything would work beautifully” if we fixed everything. I reluctantly agreed to a $650 charge.•     After changing only one side of the drum and cable (not both), the cable snapped again. The technician called to say the track now needed replacing for $1,250.•     I became convinced the technician was not resolving the core issues and was blaming multiple unrelated parts while failing to complete the basic repair.•     We heard the door drop at least twice during service, suggesting possible panel damage.•     Despite a lack of resolution and additional damage, the technician still charged for the visit.Main Concerns•     Unclear and changing pricing with no transparent breakdown for parts or labor.•     Technician appeared to misdiagnose or create further damage.•     Service did not resolve the original problem, and in fact, additional issues developed.•     Technician was paid despite the failed repair, poor communication, and further damage to the door.•     This experience was frustrating, disappointing, and did not reflect professional or trustworthy business practices.Resolution Requested•     Refund for inadequate and damaging service, or at minimum, a substantial discount.•     Written explanation and itemized invoice for all attempted repairs, parts, and labor.•     Assurance that internal procedures for pricing, diagnostics, and customer service will be reviewed. This experience was unacceptable, and, if unresolved, I plan to share this review publicly and report to relevant consumer protection agencies. Not only that he damaged our wall and installed the wrong spring Sincerely,Shenouda

Do your research!

The tech told us we needed to replace everything except the actual garage door. $1250.00. No invoice, no receipt, no discount (showed online). I've called every day since. "we will push this to our manager". Still nothing. The tech did fix the garage door though so I guess there's that. Expensive! I just want a manager to contact me so I don't have to call everyday and get told the same thing. I called the very first garage door company that I saw, I won't do that again.
