The new guard does provide some protection for the windshield; I bought two different models, including an extended one for my 2012 vehicle. However, it doesn't stay in place as securely as the non-extended model I purchased four years ago, which also included mirror covers. Additionally, it isn't wide enough to cover the entire windshield of a pickup truck. The extended flaps tend to lift in high winds, unlike the single piece from before. The lower flap also lifts, and since it isn't split, trying to position the wipers on top to hold it down undermines the coverage of the blades. The other option I bought for my granddaughter's car, priced at ten dollars, has Velcro straps that need to go around the wiper arm, which means digging through snow or ice to unstrap them afterward. Overall, I'm not very satisfied with these two; there's no comparison to what I had four years ago, which I still use on my other vehicle.
