Review Time
i decided to use Open Fix as it was a very good clear site I was extremely pleased with the process I am recently widowed and I have never had to sort a policy out before and Ai found this company to be really easy to manouver
Openfix will find ANY excuse not to pay out.
I've been paying my monthly premiums to Openfix for three years without a single claim. Last month, my boiler finally broke down. I thought, "No problem, that's what I've been paying for."
How wrong I was.
The engineer arrived after 3 days of calls spent 10 minutes looking at it, and declared it "Beyond Economic Repair" (BER). When I asked what that meant, he mumbled something about "parts availability" and left.
I called to ask about my replacement boiler.
The excuses started immediately:
• First, they claimed I "hadn't serviced it annually" — I have the paperwork from THEIR approved engineer from 6 months ago.
• Then they said the boiler was "too old" — it's 8 years old, and my policy covers boilers up to 15 years.
• Then they blamed "limescale damage" and said it was "pre-existing" — the boiler worked perfectly until last month!
• Finally, they accused ME of "negligence" for not bleeding the radiators recently.
The Truth:
I got a second opinion from an independent Gas Safe engineer. He fixed it in 45 minutes with a £40 part. Total cost: £180. Openfix just couldn't be bothered.
Three years of premiums. Zero payout. Countless lies.
I'm now £1,260 out of pocket in premiums plus the £180 repair, and they had the nerve to offer me a "goodwill gesture" of £50 if I signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Avoid Openfix. They'll take your money then abandon you when you need them most.
Avoid Openfix like the plague!
"Left Freezing for 2 Weeks—Disgraceful Treatment of Pensioners"
My wife and I are both in our late 70s. We've been loyal customers of Openfix for 8 years, never missed a payment. When our boiler broke down two weeks ago, we genuinely believed our policy meant we'd be looked after. How wrong we were.
Two Weeks Without Heat or Hot Water
It's the middle of February. Temperatures dropped below freezing. My wife has arthritis—she's been in constant pain without warmth. We've had to boil kettles just to wash, and sleep in our coats with hot water bottles that go cold by 2am. The stress has been unbearable.
"Emergency" Service?
We reported the breakdown immediately. They promised an engineer within 24 hours. Nobody came. We called again. "Tomorrow morning," they said. Nothing. This went on for five days. Each time we spoke to someone new, no record of our previous calls. My wife was in tears on the phone—I'm not ashamed to say I was close to tears myself. We're not tech-savvy people; we kept thinking we must be doing something wrong, that we weren't explaining properly.
The Engineer Finally Came—Then Left
When someone finally arrived (day 6), he said he needed a part. "Two days," he promised. We waited. Nothing. More phone calls. More being told "it's with the parts department." We asked to speak to a supervisor. "They're busy, they'll call back." They never did.
Spoken to Like We Were a Nuisance
One young man called Oliver actually sighed when I explained we'd been waiting over a week. He spoke so fast, using jargon we didn't understand. When I asked him to slow down, he said, "Look, there's a process." A process? We're pensioners freezing in our own home!
We Had to Borrow Money
After 12 days, our daughter insisted on paying for an independent engineer herself. £2,200 we now owe her—money we don't have on our fixed income. The new boiler was fitted in 24 hours. Meanwhile, Openfix still hasn't returned our calls or done anything to help us, we could easy have frozen to death.
The Final Insult
Yesterday we received an email (we don't even have email—our neighbour printed it) saying our claim was "closed due to customer arranging own repair." No apology. No explanation. And they'll still take next month's premium unless we cancel.
To Any Other Elderly Couples Considering This Company:
They don't care about you. You're just a policy number. When you're vulnerable and desperate, you'll be passed around different reps, given false promises, and left to suffer. We trusted them with our wellbeing. They betrayed that trust without a second thought.
We're reporting them to the Ombudsman. Not for the money—we'll never see that—but because no other elderly person should go through what my wife and I have endured.
Shame on you, Openfix, You left two pensioners to freeze.
Regards Mr Ali
Make sure you read the small print before you take out the policy as you will be liable for the whole year if you cancel.
There’s no compensation for unused policy or months where you stopped paying the monthly payment. You must pay the full year.
Angry about this would not recommended as wasn’t informed about this when I took out the policy…
You never know how good your policy is until you have to use it. But to be fair to OpenFix. They’ve dealt with my boiler breakdown efficiently and kept me informed throughout. Heating issues now resolved and great to had the cover. Only minor niggle was the fact it took 4 days to resolve (thankfully wasn’t too cold), but that was due to the parts needed.
I had a terrible experience with the service. I reported a leak in my boiler system, only to be informed that they would not cover it because it was on the filter, which is excluded from their coverage. It's frustrating how everything is buried in the fine print these days. Very disappointing!
This service is deceptive. Be cautious of potential scams. They purchase high ratings to sway customer opinions and promote their products. Keep in mind that they lack in-house employees for fieldwork, relying instead on self-employed individuals whom they compensate. Their strategy seems to involve denying claims to maximize their profits.
The registration process was extremely simple. I sought a dependable service that offered great value and had positive feedback. I reviewed the many favorable comments and completed my registration in about 10 minutes. A quick and easy task done!
