UI sucks, most tools don't work as intended, intrusive ads, and on top of that, it's very slow and would probably lag your device.
Just use Inkscape or anything else at this point, I would NEVER recommend using Photopea to anybody.
The overall site is good...It has lots of tools, and it really helps improve my work and grades. We use this site a lot in photography class, so I use it much more than I'd like to, and that's because this site is very, very slow. I've never experienced a site that lags and freezes this much, and it's so bad that the site keeps reloading, or I'd just see a blank screen and have to reload it, and I haven't even finished the project I was doing! I literally raged about 10 times because of this and so I had to save the project but I had to redo the steps that I'd left off at when I saved it every time this happens because sometimes I don't have the time to save the project before it reloads and/or pauses/lags so at this point I'm considering just submitting the project(s) as it is...finished or not because this is just ridiculous!! So I do not recommend anyone to use this site. If anyone sees this before they try to get the site or use it, I recommend you not use it because it may look great, but looks can be deceiving...other than that, it's honestly a great site. If only the lagging, pausing, and reloading would stop; If only they'd fix that, they'd be good. I promise you, they'd have way more four and five-star reviews!! This is ridiculous!
Wow, really? Ads on both sidebars? And video ads too? It completely ruins the experience. When a video ad changes and you're using the Clone Stamp tool, the cursor resets and you have to take a new sample every time. I get it, you need revenue to keep the product going, but if management can’t find ways to monetize without frustrating users, then maybe it’s time for new management that can.
I started using Photopea Free when I had to change my PC and Windows 11 wouldn’t support my version of Photoshop Elements. I found it good for basic functions like cropping, airbrushing and slight colour changes. It is sometimes slow and at times freezes meaning I have to exit and reload the file. As it is free, one expects ads, but they do cut down on the working area and can be irritating if they are flashing, although to some extent you get used to them. However, Photopea has now moved the ads to the left of the screen which makes it practically unusable for anything but a quick basic edit unless you can cover that area of the screen. The reason they say is to increase revenue by encouraging more clicks (some will be accidental) and to force users into considering paying for the premium version. Photopea answered critics with this comment on GitHub:“Hello, we are planning to have ads on the left side for 3 days of a week, and on the right side for 4 days of a week. We make internal decisions about the mechanisms of monetisation, this place is for reporting bugs in Photopea. We are very grateful to those who decide to support us by getting a Premium account!”So what days of the week are the ads moved back to the right or is it random? Considering it is free I would have rated Photopea as 3 to 4 stars, but now only consider it 2 to 3 stars since the ads moved to the left.I am now considering getting a 3 year contract of Adobe Photoshop Elements from a local, well-known retailer rather than purchase Photopea Premium, as I prefer Photoshop Elements and it works out slightly cheaper than a monthly subscription to Photopea Premium.
