Review Time
Taking PPI course was paramount to my greater undersatnding of the material. I did have to take the PE exam twice, however I did pass my second time. What I thought could have been done better is that the live version and the recorded versions were the same material, sample problems, and nearly the same information. I could have just used the online ondemand verison, if the garentee was also offered in that manner. The other item that could have helped more that I supplimented with a different study material was stepping through and understanding every equation in the handbook rather than 'top tier' only approach.
First: They have no clue of what is coming in the PE exam. I searched left and right on the questions I was unable to answer on the test and couldnt find anything on the CERM, study guide and other reference material. Their problems are way too hard compare to what is coming in the test which takes away from learning other valuable information or strategies. Their lessons are gear towards calcs and little to none theory. Second: My instructor was changed last minute and the schedule hours were very late at night than what we were signed for. They fixed that by letting us know the classes will still be available on demand. We all pay for live sessions. No refund was offered to the people that could not make it to live sessions.I follow their instructions to the T. I made it to each class, pass all my homework quizzes, actively participate in class, filled up two 3in binders with materials, examples, notes and homework problem, once the classes were over I spent a month of solving problems, took my test in a month from the last live session and was shocked and how unhelpful PPI classes and material were.It is not worth the $3000 price tag!
I enrolled in the Live Online Course and the first thing I will say is that it is quite the financial commitment and definitely more expensive than some other courses I looked into, BUT I believe you get what you pay for. The schedule is super rigorous and no joke on top of normal life and working a full-time job, but I think the course really prepares you for the actual exam. The practice problems are more difficult than the actual exam in my opinion and the setup of the split screen with the handbook is so helpful to prepare for exam day to make sure you know your way around the manual well. I had Josh Ogle for the breadth portion of the class and I can't say enough good things, he explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, was super engaging and has a great sense of humor. For the depth portion, I had Rafsan Rafi who was equally as great! He encouraged participation in the practice problems during class and had a live poll to make sure people were understanding things as we went. I always struggled on exams in college but felt very prepared during the actual exam. I did complete all the readings, homework, assignments etc. which was a huge effort, but I believe made sure I was really prepared. I had a few curveball questions on the actual exam, but I'm sure that is to be expected no matter which depth portion you take. I found out today that I did indeed pass which is a huge relief and am glad I spent the extra time and money to study with PPI2Pass. If you can make the financial commitment and time commitment for ~3 months, I recommend going with PPI2Pass hands down.
Prof. Sadoff was incredibly knowledgeable, he was great at explaining topics and any questions that we had. He moved a little quick but having the recorded sessions was very helpful. The practice problems seemed harder than the actual test was. It was discouraging leading up to the test, but once I got into the test it felt like a breeze.
I like the format of the sample problems and practice questions tod do while going through the book, but I think the execution could be better. The practice question within each book chapter have several questions that don’t cover the information from that actual chapter. There is a well sample problem in chapter 7 before wells have been addressed by the book. The first water homework had a lime softening problem which was not covered in the water chapters. Some of the items I need more review for, like pumps and Henry’s law, don’t have any example problems in the book. There are several formulas in the reference manual that weren’t addressed in the water section, like the multi path pipeline equation, the NPSHA equation, and Venturi meters. The book has lots of equations that aren’t included in the reference manual at all. Variables aren’t always defined when they are given in an equation. Sometimes values are taken from tables, but those tables aren’t referenced or are included in an appendix that can’t be easily reached within the e-book.
