I needed to make 3 QR codes for my company, each having links to completely different things - not only was it WAY simple to navigate the features and content for the codes, but honestly? Had a LOT of fun doing it! I could pick the color, shape, and even had the option to add my company's logo smack-dab-in-the-center of code! EPIC! Using this site every. time.
Do not use QR code io (qr-code.io, qr.io) - Their false advertising is unethical.
All I needed was a static QR for a cub scout advancement ceremony. A not-for-profit youth event. I was completely misled by their false advertising through search engines (see below). Unfortunately, before we realized they would extort us for $$$ to keep the FREE CODE active, we had already printed the code in our Blue & Gold Program. It was just a simple QR to link to a google page that has a slideshow link of our scouts. Which I know I could have gotten for free at a ton of other sites, but I was lured in by their ability to put our logo in the center of the code.
They refused to extend the “free code” for an additional 24 hours, so I was forced to pay for a month so the code would stay active during our banquet.
Their false advertising is below - they pay to be at the top of the pile on google:

This is the first 1-star review I have given to any company ever. I appreciated how quick and easy it was to create a QR code. However, I did not appreciate the payment experience. The payment amount was unclear to me, and I didn't realize I would be charged annually when the payments were presented as monthly. When I reached out to customer service, they explained that they don't offer monthly billing options. The company completed my request to cancel my subscription, but did not refund my money. I do not recommend using this company because their billing is not transparent, and their customer service is not helpful.
I wanted a qr code for my wedding website and unfortunately chose qr.io. They said the qr was free but failed to mention clearly that it was only free for 7 days. after the 7 days they tell you to sign up for their monthly subscription or the code doesn't work. 7 days is just enough time for you to print a bunch of stuff with a code that wont work by the time anyone wants to use it. Now I'm stuck with a bunch of rsvp cards that are basically useless bc the qr code doesn't work. I'm now in a situation where i have to print stickers to place over their useless qr code. I honestly wouldn't have had a problem paying a small one time fee to use the qr code. But no, they ask for a monthly 35 dollar fee. Absolutely ridiculous, they know what they are doing that their business practice is totally scummy.
Side note: after more research I have found that they do offer a static price for a qr code, but it is not set to their default. Again this is clearly a deliberate way to put customers in an awkward position to make them pay an expensive monthly fee or have a bunch of broken codes on their stationary. the lack of transparency is appalling.
Top sponsored spot on Google. “Best Free QR code generator”. I had 100+ custom invitations with this 'free' QR code on them and after they were all delivered the QR code was deactivated and costs $35/month to reactivate it. There was zero explanation about this on your website. It’s false advertising and misleading. Trapping people and held at ransom into paying your $35/month fee.

I had so much fun! My fiance planned this date as a surpass. Colton gave great instructions and was very sweet. He gave me tips and both my fiance and Colton encouraged me to keep going. I eventually hit the red! We will definitely be coming back soon
No mention of a subscription for the QR codes, as QR codes are generally a free service. 1 week after creation once brochures have been printed using the QR code they then notify that there is a subscription for something which any other company provide for free (for example Google). Can see they've paid for positive reviews on here.
Deceptive tactics. They advertise "free" QR codes but deactivate them completely unless you pay for premium access. You'll be offered the option to pay a $50 fee to keep it active, which is something most competitors provide at no cost. It's hard to trust this opportunistic company. They are fully aware of their actions and show no concern.
