I was fortunate enough to get a beautiful guitar at a very reasonable price here. The guitar was delivered in slightly better than described condition. But as described with a few little dings here and there. Plugged in and played perfectly. I have no problem with a little patina. Most of all I appreciate the fact that the seller actually retroactively refunded me a portion to match an offer that I had previously made but that had expired.
I have generally had good experiences on Reverb, but this situation exposed a major flaw in how damaged items are handled when a seller does not use Reverb Safe Shipping.
In my case, an item arrived damaged and non functioning. The packaging was clearly inadequate. The box was thin, oversized, lacked sufficient packing material, and the unit should have been double boxed. This was evident from the photos alone. Despite this, I was required to wait for the seller’s UPS damage claim to be processed before receiving my refund.
This policy is unfair to buyers.
• The buyer did nothing wrong
• The seller chose not to pack the item properly
• The seller chose not to use Reverb Safe Shipping
• The buyer is forced to wait while the seller and carrier resolve their claim
During this time, nearly $800 of my money was effectively held hostage. Many buyers, myself included, are in the middle of active projects and need to move on to a replacement piece of gear immediately. eBay handles this much better. When an item arrives damaged and unusable, the buyer ships it back and receives a refund right away. The seller then deals with the carrier claim separately. That is how buyer protection should work.
In this situation, the seller even accused me of intentionally damaging a rare piece of gear that I was lucky enough to find at a good price, which was absurd. Reverb could clearly see from the photos that the packaging was inadequate and that UPS was very likely to deny the claim. Despite this, I still had to wait. The seller also failed to refund within the required timeframe, which delayed things further until Reverb eventually stepped in and forced the refund.
Reverb needs to reconsider this policy. Buyer protection should protect the buyer first. Carrier disputes and reimbursement should be handled between the seller and the shipping company, not at the buyer’s expense.
Reverb is an easy to use, reliable web store where like-minded private musicians and puiblic storefronts can sell musical gear. It's an amazing experience to be able to shop, sell, and learn about everything gear-wise regardless of your instrument.
Reverb has always been terrible and now is getting worse. I put up a guitar with stock images and they suspended my sale. I took my own photos and uploaded them and now they suspended the sale again. Total clowns.
I sold an item. It has taken them nearly two weeks to transfer me the money. They still expect their 5 percent fee? Absolute joke.
I have around 7 more guitars to sell, and I wont be using them.
The first problem is they omitted all my perfect reviews for 5 years. They only have one old negative wiring issue because the first guy messed it up. The 2nd review was clearly a scam for quick cash that ended up costing me more then item was worth. Now some German buyer hacked my account and the chat bot was absolutely useless. Nobody knows or answers when I ask if the account is OK and even safe to use. The fees are horrendous this year so I have no choice but to move to another site. All my reviews on my big dollar items are gone. I feel like this is deliberate because when this occurs, you get stuck bending your bottom price just to reclaim your store. Any suggestions please
I’m giving five stars due to the seller's meticulous attention to packing the guitar. Additionally, the seller was reasonable during negotiations. While I believe many items on the platform tend to be overpriced, it remains a valuable resource that I will continue to utilize.
This platform eliminates the stress involved in selling your equipment or purchasing your next instrument. If you have any inquiries about the process, whether you're buying or selling, the support team is always available to help. So, if you're unsure about engaging in transactions for your musical gear here, give it a go; you’ll be pleased with the outcome!
I ordered this guitar and expressed my gratitude, wishing a happy new year while requesting a tracking number four days later. Unfortunately, I received no response. I later got an email indicating delivery, but it was not at my front door as I waited. After calling, the issue was escalated to a case manager, and I was promptly refunded. I had hoped to finally acquire a 70s J 55 for $800, something I had been searching for over two years, so I was initially excited. However, if it was sent, I never received a tracking number, and I know it didn’t arrive here. I didn’t want a refund; I wanted the guitar, which makes me quite unhappy. Every guitar I’ve sold here included a tracking number, and I've always communicated well with sellers. It should be straightforward. I would appreciate an explanation. If the seller still has the guitar and believes it’s worth more, I am open to discussing it.
