I want to warn everyone about Smallpdf’s practices regarding their digital subscription service.Under both EU and UK consumer protection laws, customers have the right to cancel a digital subscription within 14 days and receive a refund. Smallpdf AG, headquartered in Switzerland (and operating within the EU market), is legally required to comply with these regulations.I contacted their customer service multiple times, asking directly whether they would honor this right and refund my subscription. Instead of giving me a clear answer, they deliberately ignored my requests. This is not just poor service – it is a serious violation of consumer rights. The facts are clear:- They charged me without providing proper prior notice.- They refused to issue a refund when I cancelled within the lawful period.- They avoided giving a clear answer when asked about compliance with EU/UK law. This behavior shows a complete disregard for customers, leaving me frustrated, disrespected, and angry. Unfortunately, I have learned that many others have had the exact same experience with Smallpdf.I strongly urge everyone to file collective complaints with the relevant authorities – the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net), the European Commission’s ODR platform, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and Trading Standards UK. With enough complaints, Smallpdf AG can be investigated for these unfair and unlawful practices. We should not allow companies to continue these subscription traps that mislead and exploit customers.
This app works very well and is worth the annual fee for the pro version. It is very quick on any of the various tasks, such as compressing pdf files, combining pdf files, deleting pages from pdf files, changing pdf's to word, excel, or the most important one, PowerPoint.
I really love SmallPDF! I have been using them for a number of years now. I have the paid version as I needed a few of the extra offers they have. However the free version worked well for ages too. I find it easy to use and great that it is web based too so I can access it off different computers if I am away from the office
WORD file conversions to pdf still have a formatting problem when there is both a left footer and a center page number. On the pdf converted page, the page number gets written over the left footer. I've reported this relatively new problem, but it has not been corrected yet. Ask a work-around, I have to do the pdf conversion in WORD and then use smallpdf to compress the larger (but correctly formatted) pdf file.
