Great customer service but poor business choices! I have been buying travel insurance with Southdown for the family for a few years and never had problems. This year upon renewal , my husband and son’s policies were virtually the same but mine went up by 76%. The company wouldn’t budge with the latest quote so I had to downgrade from worldwide to Europe to have a decent price ( my husband and my 15 year old son are currently paying the same as me to have worldwide cover ) . It does not make sense and I could not change their mind. Next year we will all go with another provider.
Sold us travel 'cover' via AXA. After being stranded in Germany after EasyJet cancelled out flight due to snow, with no other flights available for 4 days, I was left to fork out over £1,500 to get my family home. After giving them all the info they requested, which took weeks to get from EasyJet, confirming flight was cancelled due to weather and no alternative etc etc, they declined to cover anything. Absolutely useless and a massive waste of time and money.
I have just had cause to increase my policy from Europe only to Worldwide and it couldn't have been easier. While on the phone we were cut off and they called me back to finish off the conversation and get my new travel policy up and running. They are extremely competitive on price and I can't recommend them enough. Haven't had cause to claim so can't comment on that but if it is as good as their other customer service it will be outstanding.
Great price and customer service! I had a policy renew but had to change the region it covered. Customer service were very helpful in doing so and refunded me fully for the previous policy. The price was great. I was really impressed at the amount for a full year of cover. Been with Southdowns for 2 years, and will definitely consider them in the future.
Took out travel insurance and declared ongoing medical conditions, so was upfront. Contracted pneumonia when in Thailand and was hospitalised for treatment overnight. The cost was £855.34….the treatment was excellent. Put in all the necessary paperwork to claim and had to chase them up as I had no response for over a month. They then sent me forms that had to be completed by my GP to prove that I had been fit to travel and had not had pneumonia before I travelled. Cost for GP to complete these forms £150. I had no concerns in paying this as I was confident in the travel insurance.Have just heard that it was declined!!They took the previous 2 years medical history including treat for a UTI, pain in my leg, chest infection and said that I hadn’t declared these conditions. How the hell are you supposed to know that you need to get 2 years worth of medical history before you travel? And how does a UTI have anything to do with contracting Pneumonia ?I am now over £1000 out of pocket because this cheapskate company refuse to pay out!!
