I have renewed our annual family travel insurance for the last 3 years. Never needing to make a claim. This year we had a flight to Greece cancelled through no fault of our own. We managed to get the flight sorted ourselves, however the hotel was booked and paid for separate.We went to lodge a claim under our cancelled travel / travel disruption cover. Was an immediate decline. Raised an appeal, all emails ignored. Spent 2 hours on the phone and literally passed from pillar to post. I believed the policy to cover cancellation out of my control. However not. I am now reporting this to FOS as believe the policy to have been mis-sold and unfit for purpose. Be careful dealing with this company!
‘Clause 1. At the time of taking out this policy you will not be covered for any claim arising directly or indirectly from:a. Any medical condition you have, or have had, for which you are taking or have been taking prescribed medication within the last 2 years.’We were due to travel to Disneyland Paris for our daughter’s 3rd birthday, but unfortunately our daughter broke out in chickenpox 2 days before our trip and we were advised by a doctor that we were not allowed to travel. We put in a claim for the rearranging costs, £1096, however the claim has been declined due to our 2 year old having an ear infection back in April 2024. How they are using this to get out of paying out for a claim regarding chicken pox 11 months later, is ridiculous!Absolutely disgusting insurance company with despicable hidden clauses to worm their way out of paying for claims. We also have an annual policy that isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on due to all their clauses they use to get out of paying out on claims. To add to this we spoke to a number of insurance handlers before making a decision on how best to action the situation. One advised we could either cancel or rearrange and would covered either way, another advised for a more successful claim we should completely cancel. However I’m glad we didn’t follow their advice of choosing to cancel as we would’ve lost everything and would have a very disappointed child!
