We had a brilliant trip to Vietnam. It was a fabulous experience despite the monsoon rain! Our guide Jimmy Chung was fantastic- I think he is the best guide we've ever had. He was welcoming, helpful, professional and knowledgeable with a brilliant sense of humour! We also met lovely people on our trip- as we always do on The Travel Department holidays! Looking forward to our next trip.
This was my sixth trip with the travel department. As usual the guides were excellent, as were the hotels, trips and transport. A total relaxing holiday. The only observations I would make about Japan are, There should be some guidelines as to tipping the guides as they deserve it. Too many sushi meals, one would be sufficient, or offer a substitute. I know it is part of experiencing the culture but three meals are a bit much.
I spent 10 days exploring India’s Golden Triangle and it was an incredible experience! Everything exceeded my expectations – from the stunning sights to the amazing people I met along the way. The group I traveled with was absolutely fab, and our guide, Manish, was brilliant – knowledgeable, never felt rushed, and with great banter. Highly recommended!
The trip was very well planed. All of. the excursions were so enjoyable and worth visiting. The food stops were outstanding as were the hotels. Our tour guide Angie was out of this world, any slight issues were resolved within minutes. All in all this was probably the best holiday of my life
I went on my first trip with TD active to Romania/Transylvania this September. I was very happy with all aspects of the holiday - everything was well organised and the hotel in Brasov was superbly located in the old part of the city. I will certainly go with the Travel Department in the future.Full marks must go to our wonderful local guide, Radu Vioral.Radu seemed to have a history book in his head that he communicated to us in an easy, humorous manner so that we never felt overwhelmed by too much information. His unique sense of humour endeared him to everybody and I feel this was a unifying factor in the group.Nothing phased him, from the complications of our vegan to carnivore lunch orders, to helping people pace themselves on one or two challenging ascents.Radu kept us busy and was proud to show us the beauty and history of his country. I will always cherish the memories.
We recently returned from the Travel Department - Egypt - Nile River Cruise & Cairo...Our guide and Egyptologist Emad 'Dodi' Fathy was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable on ancient Egypt, he went above and beyond to make our trip a fantastic memorable experience. Thank you Dodi..... John & Monica Rooney (Ireland)
The holiday was the best we've been on. Gertie Tuinder was our guide and was excellent. Knowledgeable, funny and she had the perfect balance between information and quiet time. We trusted her guidance and problem solving. completely. We have little criticism of any parts of the trip. Although tired on arrival, we enjoyed the trip up Table Mountain. We enjoyed the wine blending day as it was a great way for people to get to know each other. Our bus driver, Bongi, was a lovely guy and an excellent driver. The scenery, visible from the bus, was stunning and worth staying awake for. Highlights were Kariega game reserve and The Cape of Good Hope trip. The 3 days in Kariega were amongst the most memorable days we've ever had. We had so many magical moments. The only animal we missed were leopard but we had amazing encounters with lions, elephants and the rest. Bring lots of layers as the weather was very cool early in the morning and late in the evening. We stopped at times to have refreshments and breaks. Our ranger, Margo, was amazing. Passionate and enthusiastic, she spotted so many things. The penguin trip was very good as was the Robben Island trip. The tour with the ex prisoner on the island was very moving. The more low key parts of the trip were very good as well. The bus would stop at various points and allow us to take photos and have breaks and get food or drinks. Often these stops were in beautiful locations. The trip to the Featherbed reserve was very good. The hotels were of a high standard and the food was very good. The only hotel that was a little tired was the one in Port Elizabeth but it's a minor criticism. The final part of the tour, in Johannesburg, had some good things but, I think, most people felt the tour around the prison was a too grim. We had such a high from the Kariega part of the trip that people felt it brought the mood down too much as it was brutal and depressing at times. We appreciate that this history is part of modern South Africa but perhaps it was too much. The Robben Island trip was similar so most of us had developed an understanding of these issues. The rest of the day was fine and we enjoyed the trip to Soweto and the meal. One a final note, my wife received a spider bite in Kariega and when we informed Gertie she was fantastic in getting help and medical assistance and reassurancing my wife. All in all, bar one or two small issues it was a fantastic holiday. Thanks again.
