I put my info into truecar and received a list of cars. I bought a different car. Over the next week I got unceasing calles, texts and emails from car dealers in a 100 mile region around me. I couldn't get them to stop.
Should be called “FakeCar”! I was in LA and found an incredibly cheap car through the website. The gave me the address so I could swing by the lot before my appointment the following morning. The car wasn’t there, so the next morning I tried to get them to confirm the car I was coming to see. Just before my appointment, the link was gone and they wouldn’t confirm or deny that the car was there until well after my appointment time-which I canceled. Total bait and switch. Don’t waste your time!!
I am currently looking for a new car and found this site on Google. It has a great tool to search for and find the car you want, but there is one fatal flaw. It does not keep up to date with inventory. I have looked up 5 different cars at 3 different dealerships. NONE of the cars were at the dealership when I went there. Not only that, they could not find where the cars might be or if they were sold, etc. So, I wasted hours and hours of my life on this useless website and am back to square one. I will have to go in and endure a salesperson, which is probably what they want anyway.
I specifically choose TrueCar to avoid the hassle of dealing with car salespeople. It is not an online only service, they basically forward you contact information to dealers.I am still receiving texts, emails, and phone calls from dealers even though i bought a car directly on my own.Use TrueCar, get spam for months. I highly recommend they add a opt out that is passed to all dealers… most annoying experience ever!
I was looking for a car I found I was interested in at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. I was contact by 3 different sales people. I text them back and let them know that I was still looking and would contact them when I was ready. The text continued and I got a couple of calls. Today I got a call at work. I don't want to deal with them at all. I will be looking elsewhere. Don't like their sales tactics. Thanks
BEWARE! Unable to navigate site and see listings without providing your contact information which is then automatically sent out to the dealerships without any clear disclosure. The site doesn’t clearly convey this is their process which is a huge red flag. Also once you provide an email, they don’t allow you to update it. The box is grayed out but you can update the other fields. Whole thing just feels grimy and shady. Not worth it. Now I have to deal with all these dealerships contacting me. I’m thinking of contacting the appropriate government agency and reporting them. There should be clear and concise disclosure of how their website functions before people are providing their contact information. I don’t need dealerships contacting me. I’d like to just see the listings without having to provide my contact information.
TrueCar's website is awful. The search engine is literally the worst I have ever used. I filtered used car search to 75 miles from my zip code. The first two pages are obviously page ads showing cars that were over 500 miles away. I could pay $600-$800 to ship these cars. Typical salesman crap, I am looking for a "cash car" for my son so my budget is $5,000 to $10,000. These clowns are showing me cars 500 miles away, in the price range, but add $600 shipping to it and it exceeds my budget. Also, DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT get a quote on selling your vehicle on this site. I put in my vehicle's info on Kelly Blue Book and got a result of $1,835 by selling my vehicle to a dealer. This is good information and seems consistent with the research I have been seeing for cash cars. I put in the SAME information, same box questions and answer selections. These clowns gave a quote of.....ready.....$145!! LMAO.
