I called the number on my claim. I waited. I verified everything. I got a person. I was told it wasn't the right department. I was transferred. I waited. I verified. I got a person. I was told they weren't the right department. What a nightmare to just understand a claim. You're taking thousands of dollars and you can't even manage basic communication.
I would not give United Healthcare one star. I've been dealing with them for almost a month over a prescription. I was told an appeal had been submitted, only to be told a week later that it was never in the system. The lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable.
It feels like they will do anything not to pay for a prescription. What's even more frustrating is that an alternative medication that works the same way isn't covered for the condition either. This process has been stressful, time-consuming, and extremely disappointing.
Worst insurance company I ever dealt with. I have been lied to multiple times. All of a sudden they are denying meds they have always covered in the past. I was told by UHC to have my dr order 90 day supply of med to get me closer to out of pocket and they would only authorize 30 day supply. They told me to have dr send in pre authorization to fill a med they have been filling no problem, now it is denied. So my health will be affected by meds they are denying me. UHC lied to me about my policy when it was enrollment time or I would have switched companies right then and there. I have dealt with rude employees there, as a matter of fact they called me today, had me verify my info and then asked me to give them same information and when I said something about that they hung up on me.
I had the most wonderful experience with UHC today. A cardio office was trying to charge me almost $800. So I called UHC - confirmed it was a covered service. They took down all the information on the bill and CALLED THEM while I was on hold! UHC read them the check numbers and handled the entire thing. I love UHC
Worse insurance to get stuck with having Cancer that I could imagine. I can’t imagine any other company being worse. OTC amount has changed multiple times dropping of course. Customer service is rude and hangs up on customers. The phone app doesn’t work so every month I have to call in my OTC that steadily shrinking.. Customer service representative threatened to hang up cause I complained about being transferred 5 times and asked if we could get to the order process.. It is so annoying to have to call each month.. they are so unhelpful and absolutely nasty. I’ve been hung up on and transferred and this happens every single month. This insurance company has made my Cancer journey hell
The platform's site crashed while I was making my first premium payment. I kept refreshing the page every 15 minutes to check if it was back up. When it finally returned, I was charged multiple times even though I only submitted my information once. They assured me a refund was on the way, but two months later, I still haven't seen any money. I've called several times for updates, but each time I hear that it’s still processing and will be resolved within the week. It never is... I'm uncertain how long I should wait before considering legal action.
I was charged twice—once for $45 and another time for $587 on the 9th. I've reached out several times and was assured a refund within 5-7 days, but I still haven't received anything! Over the past month, I've paid for 12.6 months of insurance, and I'm concerned this might happen again.
I am sharing this caution with all policyholders about the use of their hearing aid benefits. My experience indicates a concerning pattern of price inflation that undermines the value of the benefit. Details of My Purchase:
In November 2025, I acquired hearing aids directly from the seller for the regular out-of-pocket price of $1,695.00. Later, after realizing I had coverage, I accessed their portal to utilize my benefit, intending to return my initial purchase and buy the aids at a discounted rate. The Misleading Information:
Hearing aids listed with a "UHC Price" of $2,258.00. After applying my co-pay, my out-of-pocket expense would be $1,658.00. This calculation reveals the deceptive price inflation: Actual Retail Price Paid: $1,695.00 Reported "Full Price": $2,258.00 Price Inflation: $563.00 (An artificial increase of over 33% on the base price.) By inflating the retail price by over $500.00, the provider is rendering the "discount" from my coverage nearly meaningless. My supposed benefit only saves me $37.00 compared to the standard market price ($1,695.00 - $1,658.00 = $37.00). My Conclusion & Action:
This practice is extremely misleading. The provider is artificially inflating the product price under their negotiated benefit program, absorbing most of the "discount" that policyholders should receive. I strongly advise all policyholders to always check the price on the portal against the standard retail price for any hearing aid before purchasing. The price quoted may be significantly inflated. I will be filing a formal complaint requesting an explanation and a price adjustment, and I will report this potentially fraudulent pricing structure to relevant authorities.
