I would not recommend staying at a unite students accommodation in Birmingham especially Lakeside. Countless stealing going on in the flat including an air fryer and I was told ‘there’s nothing we can do’ even though it’s suspected someone else is coming into the flat which is a huge safety issue. Messy kitchens to the point there’s rotting food and flies even tho I reported the cleanliness months ago and no message got passed on. Staff always give promises they can not keep. A member of staff even told me recently that I need to have patience as they sometimes forget when my point was that they forgot all the time when i’ve asked for help. She continues to go onto saying that I should have waited around for them to send the email like i’m paying 7/8 grand to teach the staff how to do their jobs.
Also rats and the customer service is awful, it’s definitely not worth your money.
They can improve by more thorough staff training.

1. Chalmers Street Edinburgh now reached 15 power outages.2. They perform kitchen inspections and then send out a generic email, rather than tackling the individual causing the issue. They should employ cleaners every month. The reason they don't tackle the issue is they have a lot of spare rooms and don't want to upset people who will return next year.The whole student accommodation business is just about fleecing people.
Extremely rude and not solution oriented they only focus on how to take more money from students. I explained my situation as politely and respectfully as possible, showing how serious my circumstances are, but they ignored everything except money. Even the constructive solutions I suggested were completely disregarded. They only care about the money coming in.They always come back with only one “solution” that benefits them financially. They are purely money focused not students and their mental wellbeing! The process for moving in, paying rent, and ending contracts is completely unclear and stressful. Even verbal agreements made with staff were ignored, and they showed no consideration for urgent financial situations.Their problem-solving and communication with students is completely inadequate.In short, this company does not take students seriously. Be very careful if you are thinking of using them.
My flat has recently had an issue with bed bugs (which took 3 months to sort). The service we received at this time was poor. People were forced to sleep in their infested rooms as there were no spare rooms available to give them (which was apparently untrue). Once it was finally dealt with, we were promised that we’d receive all of the expenses we’d had due to the infestation refunded to us. I made my claim and gave the staff a detailed description of what money I needed back and why. I was then only offered a refund of part of what I asked for and was told it was because they were only covering certain costs, not all of them. I pointed out that my other flatmates had actually received more than they asked for so this couldn’t have been true. I was also told by them that they wouldn’t cover the costs I spent on a train home when we had to be out of the flat for treatment to take place as I was apparently offered a room to stay in (I was not!). However, my email was ignored as well as my follow-up email. I’m extremely unhappy that after the poor customer service and support we received during this time, I can’t even get my money back which should be the bare minimum.
NEVER STAY WITH UNITE STUDENTS!My experience of living in the Unite Students Olympic Way accommodation in London, was an absolute nightmare and harmful to my health!!!!Every single night, my flatmates — who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol (and highly possible - weed) —were playing extremely loud music from midnight until early morning. They were slamming doors, shouting , and singing loudly, making it completely impossible to sleep all night long! I did not sleep more than two hours per night during my entire stay, and sometimes could not sleep all night, which led to me being forced to miss class in the morning. This seriously affected my physical and mental health. Management showed no concern for residents at all. Reception staff are changed daily, never introducing themselves, and always redirected complaints to a general email address where messages were simply ignored. After numerous complaints, I finally received the manager’s contact information and was offered a meeting to “resolve” the issue. Instead of addressing the ongoing noise problem, the student experience manager JOVITA LECICKYTE immediately asked where I wanted to move. Even after I found an alternative room myself, I was repeatedly refused permission to view it — despite having the right to do so. At the same time, they could not guarantee that the new room would be quiet. The most shocking incident happened when I received the keys to the new room and, according to the Tenancy Agreement, had the right to begin moving my belongings. One day before my move, the manager unlocked the door with her own key, entered the room without my permission, and THREW AWAY ALL OF MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS!Reception staff later confirmed that my items had been thrown away but refused to tell me who was responsible. Only because I immediately called the police I was able to receive compensation. Otherwise, I would not have been reimbursed at all!None of the staff members even apologised to me for these multiple breaches of the Tenancy Agreement ! This place lacks professionalism, accountability, and basic respect for residents. I strongly advise others to think carefully before choosing to stay here!
Overall, this has been a disappointing experience, and I would not choose to stay here again under these circumstances. I’m writing to express my dissatisfaction with my experience in the accommodation so far.Throughout my entire stay, I have not been provided with a room key card, which has left me dependent on staff assistance every time I need to enter. This has been inconvenient, restrictive, and has made me feel uncomfortable having to constantly request access and undergo repeated checks.Additionally, the heater in my room is not functioning properly, and the equipment frequently turns off, making the living conditions far from ideal.

They don't care about the student at all...Give me back my 1000 pounds and cancel the fake agreement.Every time I get mail from you..You people deliberately don't want to understand...Your target and commission may be important to you..But we have no value to you...I have complained many times...made requests but you people don't understand...I will pay the money as per the agreement and give you the student...It is not my responsibility to give the student..It is amber student and your own responsibility.I don't have to give any money...I have to take it from you...You come amber student give me back my 1000 pounds..and cancel the fake agreement. Because both of you are responsible for my loss..Your first priority should be the students..not your false promises..You cheat by working first and speaking after being caught..so that the student has no proof that he is telling the truth..I request you not to do the same bad thing to any other student as you have done to me...and I have already answered the mail you sent to the unit student..how many times do I have to answer the same thing over and over again.Please 🙏 give me my money back and cancel the fake aggreement 🙏.
I live at Elvet Studios in Durham, & while I was initially impressed by the building & the staff, I've quickly found that the looks were deceiving. There are only 2 washing machines & dryers for 100+ students, & both dryers were out of order for an entire month. The staff were entirely uninformed & clearly didn't care. I would never live with Unite again. UPDATE: the conditions within studios are also unacceptable for the high price being charged. The maintenance staff are unhelpful & patronising, & clearly don't care about tenant wellbeing. They dismissed the massive patches of mould & their visible effects on my health as something insignificant that happens all the time. I highly regret signing with Unite.
