Review Time
This is hands down the worst rental service I've encountered. We rented a vehicle for a week, and upon reaching our home, the car was towed due to a seized tag. It's been a month, and the company refuses to refund the $250 deposit. Despite numerous calls and messages, there has been no response. They promised a refund verbally, but it has yet to materialize. This has been an extremely disappointing experience.
I frequently travel to a specific country and rent cars, but this time was a significant mistake. The company tried to sell me their insurance despite my existing coverage. Now, over a month later, I’m still trying to get my deposit back without success. This company is a complete disaster.
It was a fantastic value for money, even though I arrived late at night and couldn’t see the car’s exterior. I was encouraged to purchase full insurance, which was still reasonably priced. However, in the morning light, I noticed a missing panel on the door and wondered if we would be held responsible for that damage, which we did not cause.
I typically avoid leaving 1-star reviews, but this situation warrants one. I rented a vehicle from a company that informed me of a $2,000 hold, which was supposed to be released upon returning the car. A month later, I discovered that the $2,000 was not just a hold; they had charged my card. I reached out to the location, but the representative was unprofessional and provided misleading information. They assured me I would receive an email and that the funds would be released shortly, but I never got the email, nor did I see a refund. I had to involve a third-party platform, which also struggled to communicate with the company. After multiple unreturned calls, I had to file a dispute with my credit card provider, and even they couldn’t get a response. It took nearly two more months to recover my money. After researching, I found numerous similar complaints about the $2,000 charge and lack of communication, which is very concerning. This was one of my most frustrating rental experiences, and I highly recommend anyone considering this company to read multiple reviews beforehand. Personally, I would not choose them again.
If you are considering renting from U-Save Car and Truck Rental in Tampa, FL, I strongly urge you to proceed with extreme caution, document everything, and file formal complaints with the following agencies if you experience similar issues:* Florida Attorney General* Tampa Airport Aviation Authority* Better Business Bureau* Federal Trade Commission (FTC & Identity Theft)* Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services* Hillsborough County Consumer & Veterans Services* Tampa Police DepartmentDespite having full-coverage auto insurance that met U-Save’s requirements, I was required to provide a $2,000 deposit for a rental Oct 18-25. I was repeatedly assured in person that this would be a temporary authorization hold only and that my card would not be charged. This was false. My card was fully charged $2,000 on October 18, and the transaction posted on October 19—without my authorization and in direct contradiction to their own written policy. When I discovered the unauthorized charge on October 20, I immediately contacted U-Save. I was given no explanation, told to call back for a manager, and then my calls began going unanswered. I made numerous calls, sent texts (all read and ignored), and received a blank email with only attachments of my rental agreement and their hold policy—which clearly states that deposits are held, not charged. After that, communication essentially stopped.I returned the vehicle on October 25 with a full tank of gas, no damage, and all tolls paid (receipts provided). The employee confirmed my full $2,000 refund would be issued within 7–10 days. It was not.Over the following weeks, I was repeatedly given false information (short synopsis):* On November 10, I was told the refund had already been processed — it had not.* U-Save’s corporate office is inaccessible by phone; only online requests are allowed.* A corporate representative (“Chris”) confirmed that deposits are released at return, yet stopped responding once I provided bank documentation proving the charge was posted and never refunded.* On November 17, I was again told the refund had “just been processed” and would appear the next day — it never did.* Additional calls were disconnected, ignored, or transferred to non-working numbers.* On November 23, I received a generic delay email asking for “a few more days,” despite weeks of silence and no resolution. As of today, U-Save still has my $2,000. I did not authorize this charge, their own written policy was violated, and they have now ceased responding entirely. This has been one of the most stressful and unethical business experiences I have ever encountered. The lack of transparency, repeated misinformation, and refusal to return a clearly unauthorized charge is unacceptable.Rent elsewhere. Protect your finances. And if you’re already dealing with this—document everything.
We rented a car on 10/14/2025 after a 2-hour wait for them to check our insurance. They were required to pay $2,000 security deposit. She clearly told us it would only be a hold, never an actual charge. They charged our credit card the full $2,000. When we returned the vehicle without any issues and very clean and full tank, they refused to give our money back they saying it would take 7-14 days to refund to our credit card. It has now been almost 2 months, and no refund. The Tampa office will not pick up the phone. We rent from Expedia and contact them, but they did not help, and the corporate office doesn't bother responding. We will contact and dispute our credit card, and make sure we will file police reports and contact the Florida Attorney General This place is a scam, and I'm shocked that they're still allowed to operate. I travel a lot and have never had a problem returning the deposit. Do not rent here. I wish I had read the review before.
