Be warned, very dishonest company!I placed an online order for a calendar, when I checked order status, I found it was lost in the USPS mail without my address on it, when I called Walter Drake to let them know the first thing customer service said was YOU must have forgot to fill in your address. I told her that's impossible because if my address wasn't filled in the website will not allow the order to be placed so somehow my address was tampered with on their end after I placed the order. They sent me a replacement calendar and within a week it finally showed up but soon after I noticed a $20.00 charge from Walter Drake on my credit card that I never made so I called them again and was told that was for their VIP Loyalty program that I signed up for, I told them I never signed up for any loyalty program and demanded a refund and to take my name off their VIP program. You have been warned this company is very dishonest.
My 90 year old mother ordered what she thought was a lace table cloth. It was lace alright, but it was plastic! She sent it back at her cost which was greater than the item itself was worth. Now they are billing her for their shipping costs even though they received the item back, and to boot, they are adding interest that has now tripled. To add further insult, she is now receiving multiple calls daily, and just today, a threatening letter advising her that if she doesn’t pay, she won’t be able to do business with other retailers. Be warned if you do business with them.
Once again, I cannot stress how cheap and irresponsible this company is. Ordered a purse back in Jan. 2025, received Feb. 2025 and one month later one of the zippers is entangled in purse and can’t be fixed. I called today and they refused to credit back or give me anything for the nightmare I have had with them since Jan. WARNING: DON’T BUY FROM THEM!
Ordered flag holders for deceased parents that served in the military. The items sent were made in China and the plastic was intertwined and stuck with the glass and cracked trying to separate them. Called customer service that sounded like a foreign call center and they said there was nothing they could do. Strongly recommend against this company.
I was ordering a product for my grandmother using my mom’s card and the card was not going through even though we knew there was sufficient funds in the account. I tried this 3 times thinking maybe I was just typing in something wrong. No- still wouldn’t go through. So then I tried my card with sufficient funds thinking it was maybe something to do with just my mom’s card. Also said it didn’t go through the two times from my card. So my last resort was to try to use my card but through PayPal and that finally did get the order to go through. But when my mom and I checked out bank statements right afterwards- ALL OF THE TIMES I TRIED ON BOTH CARDS WENT THROUGH AS PENDING CHARGES AND PUSHED MY ACCOUNT INTO THE NEGATIVE !!! ALSO MAKING ME FACE AN OVERDRAFT FEE CHARGE THAT I NOW HAVE TO FIGHT BECAUSE THE PENDING CHARGES ON BOTH ACCOUNTS HAVE NOT ROLLED OFF YET AFTER TWO DAYS!!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND I’M FURIOUS!!! They emailed me back after I reached out and said “it usually doesn’t go through because of a “billing address error on my part” which is obviously not what happened in my case BECAUSE ALL THE CHARGES MADE IT TO THE BANK!!! They refuse to take any type of accountability for the error in their ordering system and I urge anyone who is thinking about purchasing to BEWARE!!!

Walter Drake, a pioneer in direct mail, began operations in 1947 in Colorado Springs with a single novel idea. In his one-room office, he created a character named “Tommy Turtle” and parents all over the country signed up for their children to receive personalized, upbeat pen pal letters and gifts from Tommy. In the beginning, he advertised in House Beautiful and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. After achieving success in this endeavor, Mr. Drake gradually added more and more products including stationery and address labels for writing letters to family and friends which became very popular during the 1950’s and 60’s as America became a more mobile society.
