Review Time
I had "button not working problems" and am not the most tekkie savvy granny. The AI and the real folks at Zoe really worked together to get me back up and running. They even taught me something I can do with my phone that I had no clue about. It proves you can teach an old dog new tricks after all! My problem was patiently resolved eventually. Good job!
I am providing feedback here because of the dismissive AI generated "human" response when I escalated my complaint directly with Zoe.
I am only giving this two stars because of my initial experience which was excellent. It really was a five star product and I loved it. I received the full kit with blood sample kit, food tests (blood sugar, blood fat), blood sugar monitor (continuous blood glucose monitor worn for two weeks) as well as the microbiome screen. The detailed analysis and results provided excellent insights into my diet, response to foods. The blood sugar information was particularly useful.
The app allowed me to score meals, assess food from barcodes, adjust portions and log meals, tracking my food intake based on my physiological needs. It was great for three months.
Then I upgraded to Zoe 2.0.
The new app is awful- true enshittification of what was something useful. It has added childish gamification to the process slowing everything down to the point of frustration. Animations, mindful messages, earning beans and more pointless time wasters. Feels like an out of place Duolingo experience. Somebody in Zoe got carried away and destroyed what is supposed to be an educational tool. I have not found the AI useful, the food recognition is not much better. Loss of chat boards (which added a huge amount of crowd sourced information) is big disappointment. Issues over the recipes continue.
The gamified version may suit some users but it should be optional, not be inflicted on everyone. I have been dutifully downloading updates in the hope that the app will be fixed. It seems clear that this is not going to happen.
I had been recommending Zoe to friends and colleagues given my initial excellent experience. As well as the terrible app, Zoe no longer does the blood screen, food tests or blood monitor for new customers, it just gives you a microbiome score. I have now warned friends and colleagues off the Zoe package and cancelled my subscription. I can see no value in longterm use of Zoe any more. There are equivalent apps out there that do the same job as the Zoe 2.0 app for a minute fraction of the high cost of Zoe.
I am someone who has read Tim Spector's scientific research prior to Zoe, his books, listens to the podcasts, watches him on the media, has the "food for life" book- I am a fan of everything up till this new app (and decline of the Zoe product).
What are you thinking Zoe? This is my first ever Trustpilot review because I feel so strongly about the decline in service. The company has deluded itself into thinking that this is what its customer base wants. Reading the rote dismissive replies to other user reviews seems to confirm this.
Joined 2 years ago and had a great experience with the old app - straightforward meal logging and personalized scoring helped make some significant diet changes and I saw meaningful health and weight loss benefits.
New app is a disaster. Dumbed down, unintuitive, layers of meaningless gamefied “features”, irritating chatbots, and seems to have either removed or obscured most of Zoe’s core science-based functionality and ease of use. Customer service unable to offer a refund or any other resolution to help with this radical change in service offering. A real shame.
Zsofia provided excellent assistance and was very courteous. I became involved with the service during the pandemic while they were studying its transmission and other related factors. I have continued to follow their research and find their articles and podcasts on nutrition and food to be highly informative and beneficial. I would highly recommend their research to anyone interested in improving their health.
After sending 7 emails that went unanswered, I left a review last Friday. They responded within the hour with an email asking how they could assist. I simply requested the return address for the sample. This straightforward question was ignored, along with my follow-up and the additional 6 emails. The team needs to refund my money; 2 weeks spent trying to get a simple answer is unacceptable.
Zoe provides valuable feedback that enables you to take charge of your diet. I’ve shed some weight, enhanced my blood sugar management, and become much more aware of my food choices, diversifying my meals. I feel satisfied every day and don’t experience deprivation with this approach. The only challenge is recognizing how unhealthy fast food and restaurant options are in comparison to my previous eating habits. This makes socializing a bit difficult when I'm not the one hosting! Nevertheless, I would wholeheartedly recommend this app and the support offered by the team.
Great potential, but lacking functionality. I joined the program after seeing the positive impact it had on my spouse. However, she uses the previous version, which is significantly more functional than the new one I've been using since September. There have been some improvements, but the old version allows for much easier addition, searching, and input of recipes and repeating meals. This new version feels simplified and gimmicky. Unless you face specific health issues, I recommend holding off for future enhancements.
The new app is disappointing. After using it for a few days, I find it more confusing than the previous version. I'm struggling to keep track of my meals, and since I started using this service, my eating habits have worsened. I'm tracking my calories and macros less, even though I know what is healthier for me. While the unusual results were useful, the app itself has not been. I would suggest exploring other options for testing, as they might be more affordable and don't require a long-term membership that offers little value. I plan to revert to a free app for tracking my calories and macros and will be canceling my subscription.
Agree with everything negative being said on the new App. DO NOT 'upgrade', looses key functionality and what made Zoe useful - granular insight into foods that help you - I subscribed to Zoe to help with gut issues and it has lost this functionality. I will be cancelling my subscription in January, prior to this it was easily worth £10/month, now it's next to worthless. I know my 'gut suppressors and boosters', it serves no further purposes in its current guise and just embeds poor AI paired with copy cat gamification of the likes of Duolingo. Complained to support and got, tough, then new app won't be the same as the last one. What a fail by Zoe.
