Review Time
This Acorn straight chairlift purchased in 2025 is is terrible.
Problems are listed below:
1.It is extremely uncomfortable. I am tall so I find the seat way to small and there is no adjustment to make the chair sit higher, or to move the backrest further back. It feels to me like it is made for small people.
2. The chair base and back are made of hard plastic, which is extremely uncomfortable. It feels like sitting on a plank. The backrest sits at a sharp 90 degrees and cuts into the lower part of my back, which I find painful.
3. It has an irritating flashing red light on the bottom section of the stair lift, which I can see from my bedroom.
4. The speed is excruciatingly slow and has a 3 second delay before even moving. (I have an older type chairlift on another section of stairs and it moves faster with no delay. It also has lots of adjustments for the height of the seat and the backrest. It also has cushions on the backrest and seat).
5. The toggles to on the arm rests are faulty. (After only 10 months).
When I spoke to Acorn about these problems, they basically told me that it is tough luck as there are no further adjustments that can be made. Basically take it or leave it. I find it hard to believe that this is its best chairlift they have after so many years of sale. I feel the design work has evolved backwards.
I was told by them to solve the problem of the hard seat by putting a cushion on the seat (at my own expense) and putting a cloth in front of the flashing light? I find this response extremely disappointing after spending $8000 on this chairlift.
I do not recommend this product.
The representative provided a detailed explanation of the chair stair lift. He was patient and did an excellent job with the installation. He removed all packaging and left our home tidy. I love the chair lift; it is stylish, quiet, and operates smoothly. The color matched our existing furniture perfectly. Highly recommend!
