Colin Harwood was extremely pleasant and helpful when some dealing info had not appeared on my account. He sorted out matters with courtesy and humour: a characteristic in my experience of dealing with AJ Bell as well as the fact you have the very best market expert on your staff- the legendary Russ Mould!
The "do it yourself" version of AJ Bell is pretty clunky to use. It's not obvious where to click to place buys/sells. When you set up a regular investment (ie into a pension) you need to not only set up the direct debit but then set up a regular investment. If you set up the regular investment to be the same amount as the Direct Debit then all of the deals will fail for that month because you need to leave money for fees, but nothing tells you that. You won't know the deals have failed until you log in and see that you've got cash sat there. When you try to search for funds or shares to buy, it doesn't automatically bring up the one you're most likely to want, eg searching "Rolls Royce" does not bring up the Rolls Royce share, because it's listed as "Rolls-Royce". Instead it brings up 15 different options, most of which it won't allow you to buy. Why list a share if its unavailable? If I search "Rolls" or "Rolls-Royce" or "Rolls Royce" on Hargreaves, it only brings up two options, both of which are available to buy - it's far easier to use, sorry AJ Bell.
Transfers from Hargreaves Lansdown were quick and efficient, progress shown online in my account. When I did have a problem linking my wife's account to my own, Customer Services were helpful in actioning this for me. One star deducted for having to go to CS though as this should have been do-able online, just that the website for some reason didn't allow it. Otherwise good and as expected.
Having just spent half an hour waiting for HMRC to answer the phone and them hanging up on me after another half hour with my questions unanswered, what a breath of fresh air AJ Bell is! Answered the phone immediately and answered my questions succinctly and without any delay. Thanks AJ Bell and Callum who took my call today and was super-helpful.
What they do is good it is a real shame they haven't caught up and can provide a "Flexi Isa".
It looks like I will have to move my investment to Trading 121 to get this service.

I find myself learning something new every time with this service. As someone who started this investment journey later than most, I appreciate all the assistance provided. However, I'm puzzled by the lack of fractional shares and some other features that are common among competitors, but overall, it's a solid service.
The platform is user-friendly and offers a wide range of investment choices. When I called to ask a question, my call was promptly answered by a knowledgeable and friendly representative. It's a rarity these days! However, I did receive repetitive emails acknowledging my deposit and suggesting further investments, despite having already made my deposit. After reaching out to customer support, it appears they have resolved the issue.
I have been with the company for many years, and their fees are quite reasonable for larger accounts, with caps on exchange-traded assets. Their service is consistently excellent. I've tried most DIY platforms, and this one stands out as top-tier. When I call, the representatives are knowledgeable, unlike others. Their administration is efficient, and the investment options are extensive. A fantastic place to grow your wealth.
